I miss Marcus and all, but Kelly Johnson is a more than adequate replacement. =D

I was looking at division leaders, and noticed Milwaukee with the most wins in the majors.
Most interesting stat I found: Fransisco Cordero has given up no runs and two measley hits in 13.2 innings this year, with 20 k’s. He also leads the league with 12 saves in 12 chances.
They might be for real this year.
Thier starting pitching is great, with on possible exception. I’m glad to see someone besides the Cards and the Astros playing well in the N.L. Central this year.
On Roy Oswalt’s player profile, he’s listed at 6 foot even. There’s no way that’s possible. He’s might be 5’10” at most.
Of course, if Ben Sheets gets injured AGAIN, their playoff hopes might be a little bit more dicey. But for now they’re definitely the class of the division and will be one of the best teams in the league all year
I agree that they will be the best team in that division all year and probably one of the best teams in the league.
Ben Sheets’ injuries will hurt but they do have Gallardo (can’t remember his first name) here in Nashville at AAA and it’s just a matter of time before he pitches for the Brewers.
Carlos Villanueva, one of their young pitchers who is currently in the bullpen, can also take a spot in the rotation if needed. He was a starting prospect anyways.
Considering that division—and the fact that this just ain’t gonna be the Cardinals’ year—Milwaukee looks to be the class over there.
I’m happy for them. There’s the obvious Braves connections (players, coaches & history), but 25 years is a long time to be out of the post-season.
I liked those late-70s/early-80s Harvey’s Wallbangers teams (Molitor, Yount, Oglivie, Stormin’ Gorman Thomas) and I think a Milwaukee-Atlanta post-season matchup would be really intriguing.
Fact is, I’ll be thrilled to see an Atlanta/Anybody post-season matchup.
Ububba, I don’t think many fans particularly worship Clemens. I was referring to the ESPN/YES Network’s coverage of him. GAG!!!

I am really hoping when Bobby Cox hangs ’em up we try hard to get Ned Yost to fill Bobby’s shoes. I think Ned has done a good job with the Beer Makers. I think the Braves let Yost go to the Brewers just so he could get some major league manager experience before he came back to us 😉

Hap, I agree on the hiring Ned Yost when Bobby retires…what about possibilites for next-in-GM? Could depend on what Dayton Moore is able to do in KC.
As for Milwaukee, I’d love to see them win the Central this year, too..esp. since St. Louis will likely be out of the picture. Pittsburgh won’t be in contention. Despite all their money, I’ll be surprised if Chicago and pull it out. Houston was probably banking on getting Clemens to help down the stretch. That leaves Cincy…maybe Milwaukee can finish in first where they currently are…

“Braves.net has become an absolute joke – the boards there are awful. Place fell apart the last two years..”
It fell apart early in 2006 when “Hawk” took over and created that “misfits” board. Place went downhill really fast. I haven’t visited since, I think last June.
It was the biggest baseball news of the day. What are they gonna do—not cover it?
And don’t confuse YES with a regular sports outlet. It’s all pinstripes all the time. It’s like Yankee State Television. NY Daily News media critic Bob Raissman refers to YES as “Al-Yankzera.”
However, I was listening to the Yanks game on the radio yesterday & I gotta admit that Suzyn Waldman’s breathless announcement of Clemens’ return was one of the most comical moments in the history of sports radio. I thought she was having a breakdown.
And along with Clemens, she is getting absolutely skewered in the local media here—and that’s exactly what should happen. Whether you’re a Pinstripe lover or hater, it was plain embarrassing.

Funny article ububba!!!
Here’s hoping Chuckie gets it right tonite against the Padres. I’d love to see him give us 7 solid. I’m also looking forward to the Maddux v. Smoltz match up later this week. That is must see tv. Too Bad I have TBS. I probably won’t get to see it.
No, I did see where he got a hit after we already took the lead. More importantly, as Brian already pointed out, he couldn’t even strike out with the bases loaded. He had to go off and get two outs.
He is incredibly lucky because he could have single-handedly cost the Braves the game right there.

I would be intrested in batting KJ 2 and Harris 1 when Renty is not in the lineup. I know KJ has owned the leadoff position and you don’t tempt fate for one game, but imagine what KJ could do in the #2 slot if he hits with someone on base 40% of the time. Plus, Willie is fast. Willie Mayes Hayes fast.

And another thing.. since I have read twice where Bobby has had trouble finding at-bats for Orr (which is a good thing, depeding on how you look at it..) why not use Orr to spell renty tonight or Chipper yesterday? Orr played SS for the Canidians in the WBC, (although he sucks)
Nick
on May 7, 2007 at 5:31 pm
Especially since we’re so enthralled with the righty/lefty platoons. If we’re going against a righty, shouldn’t the left-handed Orr be the choice? It’s not like Woodward is any better than him.
This speaks to my overall opinion of the Brave bench, but I think Orr and Woodward are equally useless. It’s too bad we have a couple of infielders who are raking in AAA right now (Escobar & Prado) while our backup infielders are stinking up the joint.
I am happy for them too. They haven’t won in forever, we have a Cox disciple in the dugout and seems like good guys. If the Braves don’t make it, I am happy to pull for them in the Playoffs. And despite the Sheets injury, I think this team wins the Central. That division is awful.
The one caveat:
I hate Bud Selig and this is his team.
Re: Marcus Giles
Yeah, I GUESS Kelly has been an OK replacement 😉
So Renty gets a day off. Big deal. As long as Woodward doesn’t drop the ball all over the field, I’ll put up with him for one game, even if he takes his expected 0-fer.
FWIW, the Mets sat half their regulars yesterday. I’m fine with it.
What happened to Unknown earlier? I was enjoying his insight. Without any credible evidence to the contrary I assume he knows what he is talking about.
So “Unkown” thanks for the comment about Salty/McCann game calling, good info.
I was stuck in a meeting and then had to stop to get something to eat. So I stopped at a sports bar to get a sandwich. The big TVs were showing the Yankee game on ESPN, of course, and the others were either showing the trivia game or NFL Live. Sheesh.
Appears I didn’t miss much.

The Padres have some stupid pitchers. First Peavy throws from the windup with a guy on first and two outs and now that balk makes two really stupid plays in a week.
my friend and i were talking about the yankees payroll tonight, and i know its like beating a dead horse to death, but they have over 100 million more than we do, and my friend said, thats like adding five number one pitchers to our rotation, could you imagine if we could even have the money to add two behind hudson and smoltzy? we would have a 4 game lead in the division

they would be no worse off now if they could trade andruw for a #3 starter and corner outfielder, and let frenchy play center andruw is struggling, although could probably bring in some loot, unless this is a clever rouge they are playing to let him stink all year so he can sign cheap and work around boras, haha

It appears that Renteria has the day off in favor of Chris Woodward. Willie Harris will man the 2-hole in the order.
Seriously, if I have to watch Woodward kill any more rallies, I think I’m gonna throw up. How come Cox’s favorite players always suck?
Lineups, we have lineups:
Pad People
M. Giles 2b
B. Giles rf
J. Cruz Jr. lf
A. Gonzalez 1b
J. Bard c
K. Greene ss
M. Cameron cf
K. Kouzmanoff 3b
C. Young p
Atlanta
K. Johnson 2b
W. Harris lf
C. Jones 3b
A. Jones cf
B. McCann c
J. Francoeur rf
S. Thorman 1b
C. Woodward “ss”
C. James (pitch)
Zach: did you miss Woodward’s single?
Lando, we didn’t miss Woodward’s GIDP with one out and the bases loaded.
No, I did see where he got a hit after we already took the lead. More importantly, as Brian already pointed out, he couldn’t even strike out with the bases loaded. He had to go off and get two outs.

Damnit..
that’s rather unfortunate…
Ryan Langerhans would have made that play.
I’m listening to the radio broadcast—man, that homeplate ump has some pipes.
Adrian Gonzalez’s homer put my fantasy team in first place…this is a moment of profound guilt for me…
Man..that ump is going to bleed from his vocal chords before we reach the 5th inning
Chuck’s not helping himself with that pitch count…
Walking Young makes no sense either
http://dugout.progressiveboink.com/archive/jon111.html
No comment.
Hahaha.
Something just looks wrong with Chuck
The Parontosaurus really got me… hahahaa
What happened to Unknown earlier? I was enjoying his insight. Without any credible evidence to the contrary I assume he knows what he is talking about.

Yeah the guys over at the Dugout are hilarious…
BOOOOOOOOOO!
James is horrible today.
Yank Chuckie NOW, something’s wrong with him.
Wow, that was an ugly outing…
Wow, one of those rare cases where Bobby didn’t wait one batter too long to get a pitcher out.
But we should have graver concerns that this is our “third” starter.
94 pitches…in the 4th inning.
2 walks to the pitcher…
all over the place…
Yank HIM!
I’m guessing Oscar isn’t starting tomorrow since he is long relieving tonight. I wonder who will end up starting tomorrow.
I was stuck in a meeting and then had to stop to get something to eat. So I stopped at a sports bar to get a sandwich. The big TVs were showing the Yankee game on ESPN, of course, and the others were either showing the trivia game or NFL Live. Sheesh.

finally, out of that inning.
Gotta like The Vulture there.
Let’s get some runs.
Would be nice if someone could make contact with one of Young’s pitches…
So who’s starting tomorrow? Barry?
Woah!!
Nice one, Woodward.
Ladies and gentlemen, Chris Woodhead.
Nice Woodward…
F’n Woodward.
Tom Emanski would frown on that, Woodward.
Back-to-back-to-back AAU national champions.
Death by a 1,000 cuts. One run goes to two and now three for the Padres.
Young is straight losing it.
The Padres have some stupid pitchers. First Peavy throws from the windup with a guy on first and two outs and now that balk makes two really stupid plays in a week.
there’s one run…come on…2 more.
Redeem yourself Woodward.
WOODWARD!
WOODWARD!! Never thought i’d say that…
Woodward with his best Renteria impression. He can’t field, but he’ll hit. I guess.
Squeeze play, Bobby. Do it.
The announcers say tomorrow’s starter will be announced after the game today. Obviously it ain’t Villarreal.
Barry or Lerew. Oh the drama.
Parontosaurus!
Can I just say that the last inning was some of the worst baseball I’ve ever seen?
good job, paronto. If that ugly oaf comes up next inning, do the same thing.
Maybe Young will be less effective…
Right David, we’ll get him out of the game one way or another.
And it continues to be really bad baseball. What, did someone invite the Royals?
Awful.
Damn you Parontosaurus!
We gave them that one.
Ah, that lanky goon can’t throw a strike now, get him while the gettin’s good.
You gotta love Willie.
WILLIE!
Tie it up, Chipper!
I hate that lanky goon.
Moylen is decent right now.
I’m not ready for a game where Woodward has every Braves hit.
diaz providing instant offense off the bench
Skip Caray needs to come off the Willie Harris for the leadoff spot nonsense.
For some reason our bats are not finding the ball well at all tonight.
yates is scaring me…again

ROGER CLEMENS IS A YANKEE!!!!111
Druw, BMac and Frenchy…against Hoffman….hmmm
2 runs against Hoffman–but then again the Braves faced tough odds yesterday….

Andruw is really struggling right now…
