The Cards probably aren’t going to give us Adam Wainwright back, but they should at least vote John Smoltz a playoff share. Smoltz went six shutout innings, pitching around six hits and three walks, striking out five. He needed 107 pitches to do it, so was pulled then. Weird game. The Braves had only three hits, but scored single runs in each of the first three innings. Francoeur hit a homer in the second, but errors on groundouts produced runs in the other two frames.
McBride opened the seventh allowing three straight singles, one on the infield, then struck out the next two. Again, weird. Kali then got out of it and followed with a 1-2-3 eighth. Wickman duplicate the feat in the ninth. Serves the Astros right.
I’ll start my series of postmortems sometime soon. Anyway, season’s over, it sucked, and yet I can’t shake the feeling that if we were in the playoffs we’d win the NL. It helps that the NL sucks, but I think this is a team that “should” have won 88 or so games. Considering that other than the Mets nobody in the league is going to win more than 88 and now Pedro’s out… Useless speculation.

And I think I’ve decided to agree with him and root for the Twins and Padres in the postseason. I’m glad we’ve known for awhile we couldn’t make it into the playoffs, because that allowed me to get over it and now I’m getting pumped to follow this postseason. If I were an Astros fan, though, after today it would take me awhile to get interested again (which is why I can honestly say I can’t remember the last few LCSs).

Claims to fame: 1) The Elias Sports Bureau reports that Hudson is the only starting pitcher in the last 40 years who was allowed to face the first 10 hitters in a game, even though he forgot to get any of them out. 2) Elias also reports that Hudson was the first pitcher to give up that many runs in the first inning of any game since Sept. 21, 1897, when Boston Beaneaters ace Kid Nichols allowed 12 in the first to Fielder Jones’ Brooklyn Bridegrooms.

I have Yankee tickets for Game 1 of the ALDS & I’m really disappointed that I don’t get my Santana-Wang matchup. I’m afraid that I see the Tigers as roadkill. Put me down as shocked if they win that series.

Yours truly turns 19 in 6 days and today was given tickets to games 1, 2, and 5 of the ALDS at the Metrodome this week as a present. I’m so excited. Go Twins!

I know. It felt like a week ago this season started. It just flew by in a blink of an eye.

Wow you really felt that way, I felt like this season couldn’t have lasted any longer. I’m just glad that they put the Astros out. At least there is some motivation and maybe some hunger for next year now.
