Speaking of ’70s power duos, can we have a Highway to the Danger Game Thread?

Keeping with the ’70s theme, how about “Fat Man” by Jethro Tull for Wickman’s entrance music? Fear The Flute!

What’s the deal with the 4pm start? Is that a TV thing?

I’ll second the Highway to the Danger Game suggestion.
Today will be the day that Wick-a-mania officially starts.

4pm start–was supposed to be 1pm start, but FOX has dropped the game for some reason. I think they didn’t do a 7pm start because today is Photo Day, so I guess they’d rather have people out on the field in the afternoon, rather than 5-6pm.

Miranda

I read somewhere that Smoltz and Andruw both have a stiff back and Chipper has a strained rib cage… don’t know if that’s true but that’s what I read.

Just a notice, which I’ll post formally on tomorrow’s thread… If you use AOL, I will not approve comments left without signing in. You-know-who has shown a propensity to pretend to be a regular and I won’t risk it.

I’m thinking it probably will be. The sky was pretty dark when they showed it and they were just putting the tarp on the field at 4. Where I am, about 20-30 minutes away, there’s a lot of thunder right now.
Elizabeth

Question: Is Turner South just showing the game in their home territories? I have the baseball package on Directv, and it shows the game on my schedule, but I’m blacked out. This is probably a FOX copyright thing; Yankees/Blue Jays, which is on YES, is also blacked out. So why the hell is it on my schedule?! UGH.

Mine suddenly stopped working, so maybe not. Try going to http://www.publicproxyservers.com and testing those out. Your odds are better if you try one outside the US, Japan, or South Korea.
I got tired and switched to Gameday. It might be a problem with MLB.TV in general, because that proxy got me in, but the feed just wouldn’t load.
Can Diaz play center? Langy’s defense is good, but usually he’s more of an automatic out than the pitcher.

1914 Update:
NY Giants 49-32 (–)
Chicago Cubs 49-37 (2.5)
St. Louis Cardinals 48-40 (4.5)
Boston Braves 39-44 (11)
Cincinnati Reds 39-46 (12)
Philadelphia Phillies 37-44 (12)
Pittsburgh Pirates 36-45 (13)
Brooklyn Robins 35-44 (13)
Today’s games: Braves had to work overtime today.
Game 1:
Boston 000 000 000 01 – 1 3 0 WP- James (both pitchers went the route)
Pirates 000 000 000 00 – 0 8 2 LP- Harmon
Game 2 does look kind of familiar, doesn’t it? Actually, Crutcher wasn’t relieved until he was already down 6-4. We bid Forbes Field farewell tomorrow.
Of course, Omar Moreno was fast too, but he was an offensive zero, just like Orr.

“I like Thorman and all, but why the hell isn’t Diaz getting starts these days?”
The Braves keep facing right-handed pitchers, day after day.
Whatever happened to Brian Jordan? I don’t want him back, but he has fallen off the Earth, it’s like no one even remembers him. Was he let go and I missed it?
Dan
on July 22, 2006 at 11:59 pm
Why is it the Phillies are going to use their schuduled starter for Saturday, Brett Myers, while the Braves are skipping over Chuck James to start Horacio Ramirez tomorrow. The Braves’ own official website says that Ramirez has really struggled against the Phillies.
Jordan has a fractured collarbone. (Also, he sucks.) He was supposed to miss 6-8 weeks about 4 weeks ago but I wouldn’t expect him to be activated until Sept. 1.

I just got back from Pearl… rained ALL night… the tarp was on when I got there and they took it off finally after the rain had about stopped… well they start fixing the field and it starts raining again! anyways… they started a few minutes late but it rained the ENTIRE game… I think they were trying to get the minimum in but it got to the point during the 4th that you couldn’t see hardly… it was pouring and the visiting pitcher complained that the mound was slick so they’d put the tarp on and they did… it finally slacked enough they got started back and then it rained off and on the rest of the game!
Dan Smith started and pitched very well but didn’t return after the delay…. we ended up losing 4-2 …we were winning 1-0 when they pulled the tarp out!

You know, this could raise a creative solution for our bullpen problems. Spahn, then Sain, then pray for rain in the 6th inning.
Ron
on July 23, 2006 at 10:04 am
Actually, if they’re still alive today, Spahn and Sain would probably pitch better than Jorge Sosa and several other members of our bullpen. Sign them up!
And we lost to the Orioles when he started against us (although Ortiz didn’t get the win). That was the game where Hudson got knocked out in the 3rd inning. One of just two games Ortiz has appeared in this year that his team won.

Dan Kolb, who will close games for now, pitched the ninth to earn his first save this season. He gave up two singles before retiring Scott Hatteberg on a comebacker for the final out.

Game officially postponed?
ESPN says it’s postponed, and there will be a doubleheader in September.
Postponed is the best we could hope for. No Chipper, Andruw, or Giles. Orr was leading off….
It was going to be ugly.
THis will also give Ramirez a chance to rest his hamstring at least one extra day, maybe two if they bump him to Tuesday to replace Shiell.
Why was Orr leading off instead of Betemit?
AAR, I would assume because Orr is fast.
Of course, Omar Moreno was fast too, but he was an offensive zero, just like Orr.
