Mom and baby are doing well. I wish I could say the same for the Giles’ naming habits. I won’t repeat the name inflicted on the poor little girl in mixed company.

Oh, that is a bad name.
I couldn’t even tell you how to pronounce it. Is the W silent?
Note the name of Girl #1 as well. They’re serial offenders.
Glad to see she’s doing better(except for the name). My nephew was born 3 months premature(He’s now a healthy 21 year old) and I can tell you it is pretty brutal to have to go through this once, much less twice. I still worry about mine(he’s 2 weeks old) and he was born 2 weeks late.
Happy for Marcus & family.
Arringtun Mae? Sawyur Rae? Something’s up. I think the illiterate Mr. Met is naming these babies!
U is my least favorite vowel (how many people rank their vowels?). Unfortunately for the Giles girls, it appears to be their parents’ favorite. None of those names are all that bad, IMO, if spelled correctly. Next time, they should just go all the way, with “Wurthungtun” or something like that. Every time I see something like this, I feel blessed that my parents just went with “Jennifer,” even though there are a LOT of them.
Seriously, though, it’s good to hear that the baby is doing better. It’s terrible for anyone to have to go through this, and Marcus and Tracy have had more than their fair share.
I just heard a comercial for “Braves on the radio.” Now I am pumped!
Just got back from Spring Training. Saw the Braves twice, not much to report. Devine, KJ and Salty looked good. Jurries and Diaz can’t catch, but may be able to hit a little.
If you have any specific questions, I will be happy to try to answer.
My ranking of vowels:
1. O
2. E
3. A
4. U
5. I
Jenny, I agree with you on Wurthingtun (although, with those parents, they’d probably give it to a girl and name her Wurthingtun Fae).
Don’t you wish your parents had named you Jennifur, though? You’d stand out in a crowd, piss off PETA… what’s not to love?
Is it possible that the use of U where it doesn’t belong is some sort of tribute to Andruw?
Whats the big deal with spelling a name different other than offending your sensibilities?
It’s just a joke, man. I think most of the folks here all love Marcus.
He could name his daughter Desi Arnaz, Jr., and I wouldn’t care.
Gotta give more props to the letter A
Thank you, Smitty!
If he named his kid Kirby Leyritz Ausmus Giles I might have a problem with that
maybe with a Sprague thrown in there somewhere
I have always thought Kirby sold his sole to the devil before game 6 in 1991. Maybe there is some truth to that
I’ve spent two percent of my life explaining to people:
1. What my name is.
2. How to spell it.
3. Which one is my first name and which is my last.
4. Etc.
I see where HoRam had a bad outing in the loss to the Tigers today. That’s actually a good sign since I’m pulling for him to lose his starting job. Actually it could be a bad sign since it will make him less attractive as trade bait.
It looks like Hessman is tearing it up for the Tigers. This tends to boost Mac’s theory that batters that can’t hit curve balls often do well in the spring because pitchers are still developing their curves and are throwing a lot of fastballs. Boy, how I miss Mike Hessman — NOT!
Rocker in NYC. Apparently he walked off the set of “Cold Pizza”, which shows that anyone can have a good idea once in awhile.
My first name is Granville. When I tell it to people I’m always ready to repeat it slower or spell it as required. And quite a few times I’ve had to reply “No, that is my first name.”
So, in that respect Mac, I’m with you.
Latnam–at least you can say to people, “Remember Granny in The Longest Yard? Yeah, that guy had my name too.”
By the way, Andy Marte went 2 for 3 with two doubles today against the New York Mets. He’s still a Brave in my heart…
The different spellings of names don’t usually bother me – as a teacher, I see alot of kids with ‘alternate’ spellings. But I agree with Jenny – the (over)use of the vowel U just seems to be ‘dumbing down’ the spelling of a name. The poor kid will be correcting people their entire life when someone tells them that they spelled their own name incorrectly.
My first job was to collect high school football scores over the phone for The Charlotte Observer. We recorded all players who scored, and spelling names correctly was the most important part. I learned that there are more different ways to spell Darrell and Darren (the spellings I picked here are random) than any other names.
The first Giles’ girls was Lundyn Mae, so the love of “u” has always been there. Also, I wonder what’s up with the middle names. It’s got to be a family thing.
Speaking of strange spellings, my mom’s name is Sherri Lynne. I don’t think anyone’s ever spelled it right on the first attempt. I say my grandparents realized they left the “e” off the first name, then accidently stuck it on the second.
The ‘u’ in the Giles girls’ names could be a nod less to andruw and more to Marcus himself…..?
Kirby RIP
not really consisten with the title of this thread G
Puck’s name mentioned earlier in the thread, just showin some respect, new concept to you?
I always wondered what “Mac” was short for, if anything, and now that I know, well, what’s the appropriate response? I want to say “I’m sorry,” but that might be rude…
