You know what this means? Rathbun and Paciorek 120 times a year, that’s what it means.

I hope you’re wrong, Mac. Because otherwise, I won’t be able to watch the Braves any more.
I’m pretty sure ESPN and TBS still retain superior position as far as broadcast rights.
The new TBS contract goes down to something like 25 games a year by the end. Which means everything will end up on FSN. Which probably means their horrible broadcasters.
But, maybe we’ll luck out, and the TBS crew will be hired by Fox. Although I’d guess it’s more likely that Skip and Pete will retire.
I hope I am not forced to watch 120 games per year on mute, because I can’t take Paciorek. I just can’t do it.
just turn the tv to mute, and then turn the radio on to the braves radio broadcast.
Fox has a delay, three or five seconds. So you’d know what happens before it happens.
BBA has their top 100 prospects for 2006 no subscription necessary http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/features/060223top100c.html
Hopefully the cable providers up here in Nashville will add the revamped Turner South to their programs now. Even watching it with Rathbun and Paciorek is better than not seeing any of it at all.
That Delmon Young quote on Chuck James is priceless. Made my night, in fact.
I wish there is a function on TV which can only turn the voices of Rathbun and Paciorek off while keeping the sound of the game on…
I really have high hope on Davies, James, and Lerew. They are the young version of Maddux, Glavine, and Smoltz.
Announcement: We are going to win the NL East. Book it.
How do I know this?
Steve Phillips says we aren’t going to.
Steve Phillips is always wrong.
So we can rest easy.
/reverse jinx
Well, at least Fox isn’t buying the Braves.
Rathbun and Paciorek, sigh
my frined created a facbook group that is called “Jack Johnson is a pussy.” There is this guy at school who is posing a jack johnson and is attacking the group’s members via email. Really funny!
Jack Johnson the boxer or Jack Johnson the surfer/singer?
Good, maybe now I can actually see the non-TBS games.
I like Jack Johnson, especially now that I’m more of a passive listener to music than I used to be. Try spending a couple hours a day in Atlanta traffic and see how it affects your regard for soothing, innocuous little ditties…
All of his songs sound the same
Does this affect me since I live in Florida? I have not yet moved to the world of Direct TV, but does this now create an option where I can see all of the games?
to counter the delay, just stand thousands of feet from your radio
Add the TiVo delay to the Fox delay, and the radio thing becomes untenable. But I can always listen to the radio and just not watch at all.
There are not many things better than putting the Braves on the radio and going to do something else while you listen.
quick shout out to JC by Jerry Crasnick today on ESPN.com, for his Mazzone Effect work:

(Warning: this column includes statements and insinuations that take Leo of the pedastal)
Thanks nevin,
I would have missed that.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What the hell??
Does that means that TBS is not going to broadcast most of the Braves games? Can someone tell me a way to watch the Braves now? I live in Puerto Rico and I don’t get FSN.
braves got screwed once again on the interleague schedule. redsox, yanks, blue jays, and o’s? that is a pretty tough bunch. they have to find a better way to match these games.
I bet the Mets have D-Rays, Royals, Carolina Mudcats, Chattanooga Lookouts…
Regarding the schedule, Atlanta gets the Yankees and Tampa Bay for one series each while the Mets get the Yankees twice and no Tampa Bay. Other than that, the teams’ interleague schedules are the same. So, who got the edge? Besides, the only time the unbalanced schedule comes into play is in the wild card race. The Braves haven’t had to worry about that race before and should not have to worry about it this season either.
I wonder if their package will ever make it out of the region, so some hypothetical person in the DC area could theoretically subscribe to their games *cough*
Not sure if this has already been mentioned but I remember us wondering what had happened to Buddy Hernandez. He had Tommy John surgery a couple of days ago and will miss the entire 2006 season. Looks like his chances with the Braves are pretty much fried. I fell really bad for him. He really deserved a shot with the Braves.

And by “fell”, I mean feel. OR “Insert Brokeback Mountain joke here”.
The news said Fox is gonna make turner south an all sports channel and change the name…maybe they will move Junkin to FX!i hope they dont cancel it! thats a good show…or they could just look for old sports stuff..SAVE VAL AND DAVE!
Everyone,
Sorry for the multiple posts all together. My computer was acting weird and I seemed to have a “brain-freeze”. I promise, no more posts from me today.
Duder,
Don’t worry about a thing. Post away, and peace be upon you. It’s all good.
FOX makes everthing worse. News, baseball, football, collegefootball is next. Now the Braves on TV ugh
I don’t get bent out of shape about the schedule. To me, the NFL is the only pro sport where schedule plays a huge part in the overall outcome.
Personally, I wish we played the Yankees every year. This’ll be the first time since ’01 & I already have my tickets (June 26-28). Pretty psyched about that. There’s nothing quite like leaving Yankee Stadium when it’s real, real quiet.
not comparing the interleague schedule to the mets, but just comparing it on an overall basis to other major league teams. i, for one, am excited about the games, but it is a very tough interleague schedule. and interleague play does affect the overall outcome of a season. how can you justify it not being a factor?
this is the deathnell for the braves and nobody gets it. the team can only be sold for the 400m with substantial cable revenue. the only hope for this prospect was for the cable rights (fox sports) to be sold together. now that door has been closed time warner is stuck with the problem of keeping a team which it is decreasing the cable coverage or just dumping the team. they are already dumping the team off cable so guess what is coming. tv coverage is booked for a while but look for payroll to start crashing at one point.
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/teams/photo?photoId=1060294&team=ari Johnny looks happy to be in Arizona.
If they cut the payrole any more thenthe theam won’t win. If the team isn’t winning, then the price of the team goes down. I could see Time Warner uping the payrole to keep the price of the team up. They maybe dumb asses, but they won’t tank run the team into the ground, only to hurt the company as a whole
You play 162 games. You don’t definitely know who is going to be good at the beginning of the year. You don’t know who’s going to be hurt and at what time of the year. You don’t know how the pitching rotation affects each interleague series.
I think if you’re good enough, you’ll win. If you aren’t, you won’t. If you miss the playoffs by one game and you blame your “tough interleague” schedule, you should probably be looking at other factors why you didn’t make the post-season.
On another note, and recalling what someone’s already said: I believe if you’re gonna have a wild-card “winner,” all league games should be equal, meaning everyone should play 13 times, instead of extra intra-division games. But I hate the wild-card anyway, so I wouldn’t expect MLB to make sense with the schedule either.
point taken ububba, but 162 games can come down to a 1-game race and a 12-14 game stint against the bluejays, redsox, yanks, and orioles compared to the devilrays, royals, rangers, and mariners (not saying these are the worst teams, but just randomly naming 4 non-elite teams) can make a difference. you are right in saying you cant blame a season on these games, but it does make a difference in the outcome.
not meaning anything personal, ububba. good argument. 🙂
I am glad the Mets have Willy Randolph, though Art Howe would be nice about right now.
ryan c,
No sweat.
I’m not saying it can’t ever be a factor; I just don’t spend much time worrying about it.
I like playing the good teams and I especially like beating the good teams.
From the official site: “Rapper MC Hammer was in camp the past two days filming a commercial for Turner South. He took batting practice before Friday’s workout and hit a few shots into the outfield.”
I get the feeling that the best promos of all time are about to get even better…awesome.
Y’know Hammer got his nickname because, as a kid, someone thought he looked like Hank Aaron. He’s a big Oakland A’s fan.
Is TBS going to continue to broadcast some of the Braves games? I hope so, because if they stop the broadcast I’m SCREWED!!!!!! (i think i wrote “screwed” the right way, if not feel free to correct me. ;-D
just to let you guys know… the media hype about mardi gras being down this year due to katrina is not true. i live in new orleans and it has been a complete blast the last 2 nights. the parades have been outstanding and the atmosphere is just as good or even better than before. long live NEW ORLEANS. Happy Freakin’ Mardi Gras. I love this town.
I just looked at the AJC photos from Friday. Brian Jordan appeared to be wearing a first baseman’s glove. This worries me.
Mike, I would thought a first baseman’s glove would be bigger than the one on Jordan’s hand.
Awesome to see Sid and TP in the same picture, they are my heros!
What’s the optimum line-up for the Braves next year? Dave Pinto has just put together a really cool tool to calculate it. Using my simple projection system (SSPS), which I haven’t posted yet but will soon, here is what I got.
Braves Lineup Analysis 2006
Pretty lofty projections there for KJ and Francoer. The Braves should be in a really good position if both they as well as McCann post OBPs over .800. Also, I’d be really surprised if AJ had a higher OBP than Chipper.
But cool calculator! 😀

I couldn’t find the pictures to take a look, but the braves site has an article about him taking grounders at first, so looks like you were right.
mraver, I would be thrilled if anyone on the team could post OBP over .800. 🙂
