Mac,
I second your: BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!
The guy has been released by the Royals and Tigers(he only needs to be released by the D-Rays for the trifecta).
Chavez must have the same pictures of Minaya that Lockhart had of Bobby. Minaya has signed or claimed this guy 5 times.

Please consider adding a Countdown to Spring Training clock!
I have a strong premonition that the last two weeks of March will bring a crucial, bone-shaking trade for the Braves. Although it’s purely my perception, it seems that trading between teams has been at a minimum so far this off season.
As teams struggle to see what they have, believing themselves the next White Sox, they will be ripe for a J.S. picking. At least that’s what he’s staking his legacy on.
My dream: Frenchy has a monster spring like Andruw did last year!
Looks like we have a couple excess pitchers to me, and we’re about to take care of the excess OF situation. I think one or two of Horacio, Sosa, Davies, James, Lerew will be elsewhere by April. For what, I don’t know – more bullpen help, I guess?

I like Ramirez’ heart and intangibles, but unfortunately, both are attached to his arm and head.

“. I think one or two of Horacio, Sosa, Davies, James, Lerew will be elsewhere by April.”
I don’t really think any of them would be better served by spending more time in AAA. We have 3 starting pitching prospects at roughly the same level of development (AKA ready), and we currently have 0 spaces for them in the rotation. Now, we do need some insurance due to health concerns, etc., but I don’t think all three will be buried in the bullpen/Richmond for the whole season.
Sosa’s a good candidate to trade, IMO. Package him with LaRoche for an upgrade at first (doubt it happens, but would like to see it)?
I do think that we need to keep 4 of the 5 we have slotted in right now, or else we’d be setting ourselves up for 3/5-4/5 of the rotation being rookies at some point during the season. I think we should count on one of Davies/Lerew/James to take the 5th spot (thus trading Sosa or Ramirez or maybe even Thomson, though that’s a pretty big risk), but counting on 2 to succeed is a bit uncomfortable, and 3 is just unrealistic.
If you lump Ramirez and Sosa in with the rookies, then that’s 5 for 2 spots. Ramirez can be a solid bet for mediocrity in my opinion, perhaps a tad better if we’re lucky. For that reason alone, if we wanted to trade a couple of the 5 (or trade Thomson), we’d need to keep him. If we keep Horacio, that leaves 4 candidates for the last spot, all of whom have decent chances at success. We could afford to deal a Sosa or perhaps a prospect in that way.
Of course, the needs part of the equation comes into play. What does JS feel the team still needs? I’d argue that Marte was traded (in a similar position to at least one of our SP prospects right now) for something we didn’t need, but JS obviously didn’t agree, and I will admit that the team is probably more solid and consistent with Renteria at short, assuming he has an average year at the plate and in the field. What else might we need?
I’ll use Sosa as the bait in these.
Area number one would be the bullpen, specifically closer. We’ve attacked this multiple times so far, and we may address it once more (once and for all?) with the rumored Langerhans-for-Riske deal. I don’t know how many more Villareal/Riske types we need to acquire, and I don’t think Sosa would be traded for a potential guy anyways. What we”d want would be a closer or a solid young setup guy (maybe a bit better and couple years younger than Riske). So that may be an option.
In the infield, the only position where doubt can exist is first base. I feel that the organization is somehow comfortable with LaRoche playing fulltime, and even if they were looking for a platoon partner, they probably wouldn’t deal Sosa for it. Also, a wholesale upgrade at first would likely include LaRoche, and I just don’t get the feeling that we’re looking to deal him. He should be better next year, anyways.
Outfield, I have a bit of doubt about Francoeur, but he isn’t going to be replaced, and he should have a decent season (low .800s OPS). That leaves LF, where we have the appearances of a platoon forming. Langy may be an Indian soon, leaving KJ and Matt Diaz to split the duties. I think this would be productive, and it seems like we’ve gone to some trouble to assemble it. If a position gets a surprise trade, though, it may be here (SP is another option with another Hudson-type deal).
So I would guess Sosa (or one of the kids) goes somewhere for a rock-solid young, cheap bullpen guy. I still think that at least one of those five gets traded.

If elsewhere includes Richmond then I agree
Heh. Safe assumption then.
