IRenteria traded; Tejada wants out
That headline makes me sick. If the Red Sox trade Marte as the major part of a package for Tejada, I will definitely vomit.

I think you might be jumping the gun a bit. Just because Tejada wants out doesn’t necessarily mean he’s gone or even available. Besides, the Orioles might be more willing to talk deal with the Braves rather than with a team in their own division. My hope would be a way to bring Tejada and Javy over to us becuase we have what it takes to possibly pull it off.
We never could’ve taken Tejada’s contract anyway, so I wouldn’t worry about it too much. The orioles aren’t going to pay as off like Boston could.
For the latest on this from the Baltimore Sun (if anyone is interested), click HERE. BugMeNot login is peskysun@mailinator.com, password peskypesk.
Tejada hasn’t returned any calls from Flanagan or Perlozzo, which tells me he probably means it. I think if they hear it from his mouth they will look into it; that’s what the article seems to suggest. The Orioles would have to be beyond retarded to trade him to Boston. Therefore, they will probably do it 😉
We could have a shot, I think. Baltimore needs a 1B, starting pitching, and outfielders. Oh, and they will also need an SS :-). Renteria, KJ/Langerhans, LaRoche, Thomson? Or something like that. I dunno. Probably won’t happen anyway.
Heh. Something like that + we keep the cash we got from Boston for Renteria’s deal. That way we can afford him. I do Marte/KJ/Thomson for Tejada+11M easily.
But if we trade LaRoche, who’s gonna play 1B? We’re kinda out of options there.
An important caveat from Rotoworld:
This may actually be the real motivation behind Tejada’s complain…of course, it’s about money.
Tejada must have figured there is no way he should be earning less than Furcal. Quite frankly, I still don’t understand what makes Furcal deserves $13M a year…stupid Dodgers.
The thing is, Tejada’s contract is still bigger than Furky’s. 6 years $72 > 3 years $39. People focus on the per year number so much that they lose sight of the total contract. These “big” contracts that are being handed out this year are still nowhere in the universe of the enormous contracts given to Manny, ARod and Hampton a few years ago.
So, does anybody know the details of Tejada’s contract? Does he have an absolute right to demand a trade or does it trigger when/if he gets traded? I don’t see Baltimore trading a great player just because he’s upset (unless they have to). Just look at Manny in Boston. He demands a trade once a week, but they don’t do it because there’s almost no way to get back what he’s worth.
Any player who signs a long term contract and is then traded can demand a trade prior to the following season or become a free agent if the demand is not met.
I bet the Mets make a push for him
Good news out of the AJC
“After feeling sluggish during a disappointing first season with the Boston Red Sox, Edgar Renteria hired a personal trainer and began an intensified winter workout program at his home in Colombia”
You have to like that.
It also talked about how wer are going after a closer hared core. TOdd Jones said he wanted to come play for a discount and threw some numbers around that he was offered. JS said they offered a million more dollars than what Jones had said. I am just gald we didn’t get him.
Has Everyone seen this
A source told the Boston Herald another team that was interested in Andy Marte turned away after the Braves acknowledged the player had a tear in the ulnar collateral ligament of an elbow.
A Red Sox official said the team reviewed his medical file and declared him healthy. If Marte has a tear in his UCL, he might someday need Tommy John surgery. It’s not as big of a concern for him as it would be for a pitcher, but it could leave the Red Sox without his services for a year. Dec. 9 – 4:28 am et

That also came from rotoworld
Now are you going to vomit. Stop the Drama
Other people have posted that rumor from the Boston Herald, but to the best of my knowledge it has not been corroborrated or confirmed by other sources.
And the Boston media have occasionally been known to print rumors that didn’t turn out to be true…
Let me add my two cents that if John Schuerholz can bring Tejada to be our shortstop instead of Renteria, I will personally buy that man a steak dinner.
What if the Braves trade Renteria as the major part of a package for Tejada, and get compensated a bit for Tejada’s contract since Renteria’s is already cut down a bit by the Red Sox deal?
Renteria+prospect for Tejada? Sounds like a good deal for both sides, on the surface.
I would think it would be more likely that the Braves would have the pieces to get Tejada if they were so inclined rather than the BoSox.
If Baltimore wants to contend, they’ll need a SS and Renteria is a SS. Toss in Kelly Johnson and a couple of Leo’s choices in young pitchers and this deal could probably get done.
Tejada is one of the most desirable players in baseball. Furcal’s deal means that Tejada’s contract is now below market value. Why would the Orioles throw in any money? Renteria would certainly be at the center of any proposed deal, but it would take a lot more than just him and a prospect, even if it’s Saltalamacchia, to make the trade. As far as other pieces, I’m sure Sosa would love to be reunited with Mazzone.
Jorge Sosa is a GREAT idea for a package deal with Baltimore. There’s nothing that team needs more than good cheap pitching. John Thomson would be a good idea too.
I say git r done!
MLB.com is reporting that the Red Sox have offered Manny Ramirez for Miguel Tejada.
As the Winter Meetings came to a close on Thursday, Orioles superstar Tejada told a reporter from the Associated Press that he would also like a change of scenery, due to Baltimore’s inability to contend in the American League East.
The Red Sox indeed have a shortstop opening that Tejada would fit perfectly into, as the club traded Edgar Renteria to the Braves earlier this week.
While Ramirez and Tejada, two of the game’s best offensive players, looks like a great match on paper, there is one issue that could kill even the possibility of such an exchange.
As a 10-5 man (10 years of service time, five with his existing team), Ramirez has the right to veto any trade.
Would Ramirez even accept a trade to the Orioles given their recent status as non-contenders? That possibility seems questionable at best.
We’ll see what happens, but at least the hot stove is heating up a bit again to make the offseason interesting.
I don’t think Manny has a no-trade clause (the Sox were going to trade him for A-Rod, remember?) and he hasn’t been in Boston for five seasons yet.
I don’t think Manny has a no-trade clause (the Sox were going to trade him for A-Rod, remember?) and he hasn’t been in Boston for five seasons yet.
Ironically Mac, last season was his fifth with the Red Sox, so the A-Rod trade might’ve been the last opportunity for the Red Sox to trade Ramirez any way they saw fit.
is there any life to the Lidge/Qualls rumors anymore?
If I’m not mistaken, the 10/5 rule is based on the calendar year, and Manny officially joined the Sox on December 19, 2000 — meaning they’ve got a week to get a deal done.
Alright, that means John Schuerholz has a week to bowl the Orioles over and convince them not to trade for Manny, and instead accept the Braves’ incredible offer behind door number 2.
Git r done!
git r done needs to be on the banned list.
Okay, I promise I’ll never say it again.
Gitterdun!
Money, shmoney. We all know what’s motivating this deal. Have you seen Tejada and David Ortiz together in Home Run Derby/All-Star festivities? They must be secret lovers.
Yes, Tejada is superior to Renteria, but Renteria will more than suffice. I would save whatever parts that would go into a deal for Tejada to get a closer, which we need very badly and, umm, don’t have.
You know we have the prospects to get a Tejada deal done and we have the prospects to make it worthwhile for Baltimore to eat some of his salary. Im really all for making anyone besides Andrus, Salty, McCann (since wed be left w/out a starter at C in that case) and Francouer avaiable among the yuoung guys.
Reteria + Thompson maybe (thatd save us a few more mil but would we risk the rotation opening?) + one of KJ and Langy + one of Davies/Lerew/James + some other minor leaguer (Campbell, Pope, Escobar-but hed have to be PTBNL, even McBride or Boyer) thats got to be enough to get us Tejada and enoguh cash to make him affordable (5-7 mil a year range)
Adam R, which closers do you think the Braves should go after?
Lidge. Lidge. Lidge. Honestly, if we can’t get Lidge or a top-notch closer, I’d rather save our prospects (maybe to upgrade in left field) and let somebody emerge as the closer. I mean, it can’t possibly be as bad as last year, right? Right?
“I’ve done many things with this team and I haven’t seen results, and the other teams are getting stronger while the Orioles have not made any signings to strengthen the club,” Tejada said.
Many players save up money , and then wanna be the champion. That is the way it goes. Sigh…
Sometimes I am weary of mammonism. BUT I have a partiality for Miggy’s ability. Also he is passionate in the dougout . He was not presented as very shy.
I don’t like a lukewarm attitude any more. That is a fundamental change in Braves.
It was just on my wish list : Michael Young, Miguel Tejada .
Chipper, Miggy, Andruw, I’d love to fall in love this lineup. BTW , Where are you ,Santa Claus? just my wish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is Octavio Dotel worth taking a flyer on or is that dumb idea? Not necessarily as closer, but closer wasn’t the only problem in our pen last year. Just a random thought.
Off-topic: J.J. Redick. Damn.
jenny, I don’t think the “flyer” on Dotel will be cheap because the Mets are interested in Dotel as well.
I have any seen Redick played, but Duke is famous for producing lots of very good NCAA players and high draft picks who will flop in the NBA. Of course, Elton Brand and Grant Hill are the two huge exceptions.
Oh, I meant I have NOT seen Redick playing myself.
BTW, the teams which are supposed to be interested in Dotel also include the Rangers and the Cardinals.
Talk about a Tejada trade to the Braves is based on complete ignorance of our team’s financial realities. We are a middle income franchise owned by a media company which is being closely watched by the biggest waste hawks on Wall Street.
Our concerns now are in the more pedestrian Baez, Batista, MacDougal, Dotel area. My hope we don’t send away someone whose value will be greater a year or two from now in order to patch the pen until Devine/McBride/Boyer are ready to do the heavy lifting.
I have strong doubts about MacDougal. I think he’s basically a lower-grade version of Kyle Farnsworth: similar flat fastball, similar problems with command, similar headcase, lower ceiling.
This is a guy who had mental issues in Kansas City, basically the smallest, least-pressured market there is. If this guy comes to Atlanta and enters the playoffs, his head could explode.
Likewise, Danny Baez… I just don’t want to take a flier on a closer named Danny for the second straight year. Even if he spells it Danys. Too close for my tastes.
I agree we should take a flier on SOMEbody, but, frankly, I’d rather just daydream about Tejada. My new catchphrase of the day: come on, John Schuerholz, runteldat!
P.S. Runteldat is the name of a Martin Lawrence movie. Yes, I’m lamer than you are.
As a Braves fan , I didn’t ignore our team’s financial realities. NEVER EVER!!!!!!!!! I’m not an idiot like that you think. Renteria was traded to the Braves. 1+1=2, but I wanna make it 3, honestly. thanks your fair blow. I’ll appreciate it.
Unlikely headline of the month:
Hawks beat Spurs by 10
The Atlanta Hawks just beat the San Antonio spurs 94-84 tonight, holding Tim Duncan to 12 points on 5-14 shooting. Now, I’m no scientist, but frankly, doctor, that’s IMPOSSIBLE. We need to catch lightning in a bottle in this city. By my calculations, we’ve got exactly 24 hours left on the miracle meter.
If THE FREAKING HAWKS can beat the Spurs, then John Schuerholz–the greatest GM since Branch Rickey–can surely figure out a way to bring Tejada to Atlanta and make it work financially. Let’s go to the mattresses, boys!
Makes no sense. And somehow, the Hawks won the game while getting no assists at all from their point guards.
I truly cannot believe what I’m reading. Please, tell me this is some sort of wishfull thinking we all know won’t come true. Tejada is NOT coming here.I cannot see any possible, realisitic, secnario in which he comes here. Especially if your going to take A prospects off the table (mccann, francoer, stal, etc).
Now, I certain agree, a
Giles
C Jones/Tejad
Tejada/C Jones
A Jones
front lineup is… well ridiculous. (more on giles at leadoff in a second) But, as people have pointed out, we don’t have the money and I don’t think we’re willing to give up the players to get a tejada who may be just looking to become a free agent next year.
Now some of my other thoughts.
Furcal, obviously not worth it. I thought we were oging to trade him last year to be honest. He’s been a decent lead off player with his typical “hit a home run in a few games and the next 80 AB’s are wasted” over the lat few years. He had a banner year in the last half, and amazing post season in 2004, but it’s certainly nothing we can absolutely rely on at 13/mil. That said, I don’t think the lenght of the dodgers contract is great for LA, and it can definatley pay off as being worth it.
Now, Renteria. I think it’s a good trade. Marte in the majors last year was never really impressive. He was a great athelete that I will say, but when you look at least year The WB was more impressive in any of his at bats than marte, I will give you The WB’s more extensive Big Show experience, but the fact of the matter is we have no idea WHAT we traded away. In football (and I would imagine it carries over very well to baseball) they say “You are what you are” if your a 8 and 8 team well theres no excuses about being losing this game or the next. In that vain we traded away a guy whose future we have as much clue about as renteria, and further we had NO PLACE for.
Next year how many AB’s does Marte have in store with the Braves? How about the year after that? If he follows Betemit’s path (which if you look Marte’s 2005 numbers vs Betemit’s 2004 number they are ridiculously similar), then he has 247 AB’s thats of course assuming that Chipper misses another 50 odd games where Marte replaces him (didn’t happen fully last year), and then Marte becomes the betemit utiltiy replacement (unlikely especially with renteria here, which speaks loudly to the braves feelings on wilson). It’s obvious to me that Marte has fallen out of any favor with the Braves. All we can look to is the next 3 years, and theres one certainty. Save Chipper getting hurt and missing a large number of games, Marte had no place here. It was best to trade him now with that outlook. We’ve seen many people who come to this team who have been ‘done’ as far as their old selves were considered and bounced back. I hope Renteria is one of those players, I certainly think he is. Throw on we’ll pay him at most 7mil next year for him, and how can you possible call that a bad thing.
As for my thougths on the rest of hte stuff. I hate to see franco go, 9 times out of 10 he alwasy came up huge when we needed him to CONSISTANTLY since 2001. If theres anyone I want to see batting with us down by 1 and a runner on 2nd, It’s Franco without a doubt. Plus, my most favorite at bat in the major I’ve actually been there for is his bases clearing triple to take the lead against the cubs after 13 foul balls about 2 years ago during the regular season.
I think next year will be another division title. I feel VERY good about us. We do need a closer, but for the last few years I’ve seen us manage, and I know it’s something we’ll do this year as well.
In all thats my long as shit post at 11:05 at nigth for no apparent reason. Hopefully, I made some semblance of sense.
few corrections: The dodgers contract is the PERFECT lenght. I think it’s worth it in terms of length (I said I don’t for some reason)
Franco’s at bat migth of been a bases clearing DOUBLE, actually I’m sure it is.
I should start proofreading, it would go a long way to preventing these correction/retracion posts 😛
As for as what Furcal is worth, you guys are looking at it from an outside prospective. You can’t neccessarily compare one persons contract to anothers and expect parity with theit skill level. Different contracts are signed at different times, under different circumstances, for different reasons. As far as the Dodgers are concerned, they paid what was neccessary to get him on their team.
someone posted this other on the other forum. thought it was itneresting for those who didn’t see it. a marietta paper alleges that the hot rumor in business circles is arthurt blank is buying the braves:

could not find any confirmation from another internet source, but lord almighty would that be pleasant
(by the way, i have been lurking on this board for a long time, but not really posted. my name is chris. i, like mac, am from the magic city (roll tide), though i currently am displaced in the bitterly cold northeast for law school. go braves.)
figures…the mets contacted the orioles about tejada. so far it’s the red sox, the cubs, the angels and the mets.

Arthur! Arthur! Arthur!
Mike Vick can leadoff.
YES! I was telling my Dad over Thanksgiving that I wish Mr. Blank would buy the Braves. Please let it happen and get us out of AOL hell. Santa, if you are reading this, forget the hot tub, this is what I want for Xmas.
I’m watching clips of Francoeur throwing out Luis Gonzalez twice in one game on the Braves website. Nevermind Lidge. If Francoeur can throw strikes from right field, then I’m convinced this kid can close. *Wipes away tear*
I want Lidge, but I have no idea how we’d get him. I think we’re going to end up with someone who “has closer stuff.” I’m anxious to find out who the Braves have in mind…
Arthur Blank can close…..a deal to buy the Braves!
Or the Mets, if he’s a true Atlanta fan he should buy the Mets and cut their payroll to 22mil
I don’t know. I like Blank, but the Braves just closed an extension on their TV contract with TBS & TS. That means he’d be buying a team that’s still getting below-market TV payments.
Well, if Blank is indeed interested in purchasing the Braves, I am sure his investment bankers will do enough due dilligence to value the final price which will consider the below market deals with the AOL, or Blank will ask AOL to rework those contracts with the Braves. Those are the things that can be resolved. The main question is whether Blank is indeed interested and if AOL wants to sell the Braves.
Tejada was on Comcast SportsNite up here saying that he just made his demand out of frustration and to get a fire lit under the asses of the FO so they’d actually make some moves. The probability of him being traded is now around 0.
Honestly, I’m kind of glad, if that’s true. I don’t think we would have landed him, and now, at least the Mets (our rivals) or the Red Sox (to whom we gave up our best prospect) won’t be able to acquire him.
would that transaction help $ situation at all?
I wonder what this might mean for the future of team ownership.
sansho1, nothing will change as long as the Braves are still under a listed company’s corporate structure, regardless of whether it is under AOL or TW. Only a non-coporate owner like Blank or Turner can save the Braves.
kc, it might help if the Braves were spun off into a different company than that which controls the television holdings. However, that wouldn’t be the case under the Case proposal.
The ownership dynamic will undoubtably change if AOL/TW split, which is still uncertain. I read the same article as originally sourced in the WaPo and, as expected, I couldn’t find any indication that the Braves might be sold off if the “splitting of the baby” went through. I found it odd that they were not mentioned as an asset to be dealt with. Significance by omission, if you will. That said, former Turner assets would undoubtably go to TW and believe me, they don’t have a clue what to do with a baseball team. They are used to dealing in traditional entertainment (music, movies, print media) and a baseball team is totally of out of their corporate comfort zone. Just look at what Mr. Case proposed earlier this year, that they split the empire into 4 divisions: TW Cable; Time, inc.; TW Entertainment, described as film and tv; and AOL. No mention of the Braves. Sure, it would go under entertainment, but I’d bet they would welcome a bid from Mr. Home Depot. Sports franchise ownership still seems to be a hobby of the uber-rich and I, contrary to my typical lefty leanings, hope for the change.
urlhix, the Braves are just too small under the AOL-TW world.
Joey, I agree that your proposed spin-off may help the Braves a little bit. However, my concern is that as long as the Braves are still within a listed company, they are still under an environment which is restricted by tight budget monitoring and shareholders expectation. We may not see the days of “let’s increase the payroll by $10M next season!!!” again until the Braves are rescued by the likes of Blank and Turner.
By the way, the second part of the interview of Talking Chop with JS has been posted.
Based on what JS says, the Braves still like HoRo a lot!!!
How is it possible to describe HomeRun’s…I mean HoRam’s…year as “up and down”? Did he have one or two good games? Yes. So, did Jordan and Mondesi. And what’s he going to “bounce back” to? AAA? I’m just so tired of even thinking about HoRam. JS interviews are always so lame, because he says absolutely nothing. I don’t blame him, because he doesn’t want to give away what’s on his mind, but there is no way he thinks of HoRam as any more than a serviceable 5th starter.
FYI, so I don’t have to keep popping in to be “that guy.” The complete 2005 PrOPS numbers are now up at THT. I have an article coming out on them, along with 2006 projections, later this week.

I bought Scout’s Honor yesterday and got a laugh on the back sleeve thier was a picture of now Brave Todd Pratt (Mets).
Nice line from Chipper. Although I remember his 2004 PrOPS was higher than his actual line also. It looks like most of the Braves older guys underperformed their PrOPS (Chipper, Julio, Eddie Perez). I notice you don’t use age as a variable – did the regressions say it wasn’t statistically significant?
With Tejada continuing to enjoy the crabcakes of Baltimore, I wonder how BoSox fans will warm to Senor Sea Bass as their SS.
JC
I don’t think it’s fair to say HORAM had “one or two good games.” He had a number of good games at home–obviously he was horrible on the road, but for the most part, he was damn good at home and he even had some good games on the road. I’m not defending him as a real good pitcher, but it’s unfair to act as if he was terrible all year. He actually lost or got no decisions in a number of games he pitched well in. He was by no means the worst fifth starter in the league. He was obviously really bad in a lot of games, but the home runs were not as much of a factor as the walks. Lots of very good pitchers give up homeruns with no one on base, HoRam gave up too many with runners on. Again, I’m not saying he is really a good pitcher, but I have to object to the revisionist history that ignores all his good games (whether he was lucky or not) and focuses entirely on his awful games.
I would have to say that his awful games are more telling. Maybe that sounds a little unfair, but his underlying stats seem to show pretty clearly that the awful version is the real one.
I don’t think this team is done dealing. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Thomson traded for an outfielder (maybe back to Texas?), Jarrod Washburn signed and at a strong attempt to involve Horacio in a deal for Vazquez. Then again, maybe I’m just thinking too much about this sort of thing too much following my late-fall baseball break/recovery.
Wow, long time no see creynolds. Maybe I just haven’t been paying attention?
BTW, JC, I’ve been doing some mini-studies on BABIP and age at work and am getting some interesting results. I don’t have software powerful enough to do the regressions that I want here at work (am stuck with Excel – I don’t have a SAS license… yet), but some crude analysis shows that each year of age is worth between .0005 and .001 points of BABIP, when controlling for the hitter and number of at bats. Excel can’t use more than 16 variables at once, or I would do a really big regression with dummy variables for all of the players.
Marc,
Revisionist history? Puh-lease. I’m not ignoring his good games nor I’m I ignoring his bad. Please feel free to expand my one or two games to five or six; the exact number doesn’t matter. When you wash out the good with the bad over his entire career, HoRam stinks. I stand by my serviceable fifth starter remark, and I’m probably being generous considering that there exist better and cheaper options among the young guys on the club. His lack of ability to strike out batters, combined with his propensity to walk batters and give up the long-ball is bad combo. The supposed faith the Braves have in him just baffles me. If he has a stellar year, I’ll admit I was wrong. It’s probably all Leo’s fault anyway.
Kyle,
There’s no age correction for pure PrOPS because it just looks at how balls are hit. However, the 2006 projections I have done do account for age.
You’re right… long time not having been seen. I was totally sapped after this season, so I needed a break. I’m back to being obsessive goofy internet fan-guy again.
There’s no age correction for pure PrOPS because it just looks at how balls are hit. However, the 2006 projections I have done do account for age.
I see. So you say, Frank thomas hit 35 ground balls, given his home run rate, walk rate, etc., we expect X of those to be base hits when in reality Y actually were. His ’05 PrOPS would replace Y with X and calculate PrAVE, PrOBP etc based on that?
I’m wonder that it might make sense to include age even for “historical” PrOPS calculations, simply because 40 year olds don’t beat out as many ground balls as do 20 year olds. What are your thoughts on this?
kc,
Like I said, I didn’t expect to see them mentioned. And I certainly don’t think that the Braves are the crown jewel of the company. My apologies if that is how it came off. But considering that AOL/TW has divested itself of all of their other sports entertainment franchises (Hawks, Thrashers, WCW) a split in the company would make a sale of the Braves even more likely, as they can then concentrate on what they know best (movie, tv, print media and providing cable services). That’s all I’m sayin’.
Anybody catch the segment on Uggie Urbina last night? Man, that is messed up.
Kyle,
I don’t disagree. I’m not sure how much it would affect things (although you’re research looks solid), and I’d have to get more specific. The thing that I’m concerned about is that some old guys (like Brian Jordan) are very fast and some young guys (Brian McCann) are very slow. So, I might have to get a little more creative than just age. I was very surprised to see speed did not play a role in PrOPS when I estimated the weights from 2002-2005. Ichiro doesn’t beat out his PrOPS more than the slow guys.

Very good points; I noticed that about Ichiro too. I think there is more to it than just speed, even though that’s a part. More generally, if you look at a bunch of players whose careers are over, they generally have really crappy BABIPs the last few years they play. Pitchers are usually the opposite, and start getting shelled (high BABIP allowed) the last few years of their careers. Again, I will try to look at this with more detail if I can figure out some better regression tools to use.
You know, I wonder at what point my fingers will understand when I type “your” and “you’re” that they’ll ever respond to the meaning I have in mind. Let’s just hope I never have to write about the days of yore.
to: “I don’t practice…”
Try using R instead of excel or SAS. It’s free and powerful. Using the R-commander package makes it a bit easier at first. After you learn it you’ll never be at the mercy of someone else’s statistical software budget decisions.
You can find a link to an example of examining baseball stats in R by googling “analyzing baseball stats with R”
Also, regarding longitudinal studies (analysing large numbers of individual players over time), R offers a package for “mixed effects models” called “nlme”. This might be more appropriate and work better than a dummy for each player.
Thanks for the links! Call me Kyle S, btw. The nickname is just a bit of silliness.
I hear this kid in Alpharetta made a billion in .com deals is interested in the braves anyone heard of this John Vabulas kid?
