The Giants finished off the sweep of the Phillies, who fall to .500 and a second-place tie with the Marlins. They’re still two games up on the Mets, but frankly I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see the Bowaboys finish fourth. All three teams are now closer to last than first.
“All three teams are now closer to last than first.”
The Expos are just as responsible for that as the Braves are. I’ve been rooting for the Expos to come back and finish second since May. I didn’t actually think it was possible until I saw them man-handling the Marlins in five straight games a couple of weeks ago. Go Expos!
Except that I screwed up and the Expos lost today, not won, and are 17 1/2 back, not 16 1/2. If the Braves win tonight, the Phillies and Marlins will be as close to last as first.
