DL likely for Chipper | Braves | ajc.com

The text of the story only uses the last two formulations; only the page title says “likely”. All we actually know is that he won’t play tomorrow. I like the idea of him at least sitting out the Cincinnati series and not flying up there at all.

Who will the Braves call up if Chipper has to go on the DL? Mike Hessman seems the most likely pick, though he stinks. I think Damon Hollins would be preferable, but then they’d have to send him through waivers to send him back to Richmond. They could also call up Wilson Betemit or another infielder, since DeRosa and LaRoche can swing to the outfield if needed, but I think they want Betemit to play every day.

I’m assuming whoever comes up Eli Marrero will get the lion’s share of the playing time in left. The alternative would be some sort of platoon with DeWayne Wise getting most of the PAs. Of course, that assumes Drew is actually available.
