ESPN.com – MLB – Recap – Giants at Mets – 08/14/2003
Are they actually going to make this up? It’s highly unlikely that the Giants are going to lose the division, and the Mets, of course, have been irrelevant since May. As far as I can tell, the only reason to make it up would be if the Giants finished a half game ahead or behind the Braves for the best record. Would that be enough to make the Giants fly across the country for a single game against a sub-.500 team?
The two teams do have one off-day in common, Monday, Aug. 25. I can’t imagine that they’d play that day. The Giants host Florida then are at Colorado, and the Mets are at L.A. then at the Braves.
If ya’ll remember, there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth on this site last year for the Robb Nen game (Nen blew a save against the Braves in a game that was later suspended by rain), with speculation that the Giants might have to travel across the country to make up a game with the Braves to settle this “best record” thing. Turned out not to be an issue. Probably won’t this time.
