5/2/98: More Bonds Shifting last night, but since Bonds homered, doubled, and walked it only came into play once. He did ground out that appearance, but it doesn’t really seem to accomplish a whole lot. Maddux didn’t pitch exceptionally well, but did well enough to go seven innings, giving up two runs, and got the win. And Andruw Jones is clawing his way out of the hole he dug himself. Hitting fifth because the Giants sent a lefty to the mound, he went 1-4 but the hit was a two-run home run that turned out the game winner, and he hit a couple of balls hard. The Braves’ outfield against lefthanded pitching has been Jones with Gerald Williams and Damon Hollins. It might not be the greatest offensive outfield in creation, but they seem to get to everything out there.
