In our first piece on the draft, we covered rounds 1-10,. Today’s piece will cover the picks 11-20 and will also update some deals that have already taken place.
Braves Draft Picks, 11-20
If you’re not following Matt Powers on Twitter, you’re doing it wrong. Powers has long been a solid choice to follow for all things Braves, especially when it comes to the draft. Today’s tweet storm belongs to him!
11. OF Jace Grady, Dallas Baptist U
12. 2B Brady Day, Kansas State
13. 3B Will Verdung, Itawamba Junior College
14. LHP Mitch Farris, Wingate
15. RHP David Rodriguez, San Joaquin College
From Kyle Richardson via Sports Illustrated: The Braves went back to their bread and butter as they picked another right-handed pitcher. David Rodriguez played at San Joaquin Delta College and was stellar last year as he pitched 102 innings and finished with a 13-2 record as he struck out 124 batters while only walking 13.
16. RHP Isaaic Gallegos, New Mexico
17. OF Kade Kern, Ohio State
18. SS Cam McGee, Washington State
Via Sports Illustrated: Kade Kern was a three-year starter in centerfield for the Buckeyes. His batting average has declined since his freshman season but his OBP has gone up from .391 to .402. Not a guy that is going to wow you with power. He will hit for average and steal bases for you.
19. RHP, Riley Frey, Milwaukee U
20. C Will King, Eastern Kentucky
Inked Braves
The Braves have come to agreements with 9 of their top 10 picks and Lucas Braun, the Braves 6th round pick, remains the only unsigned player in the top 10. Gallegos, the Braves 16th pick, is the only Day 3 guy to sign.
Transaction a Day AA
Well…this is a whole bunch of bad in 2 tweets. Nick Anderson likely out the rest of the season, maybe more, and Roddery Munoz, who once had what David Lee referred to as “the best fastball in the org” has fallen so far that he has been DFA’d. It is possible that he goes unclaimed and returns to the org.
And we all know that AA does not like open 40-man spots, so obviously he’d fill those by bringing Lucas Luetge back and claiming Dalton Guthrie for some reason.
I think the Braves have now entered the RH reliever trade market.
Pull up a chair, grab a pint and let’s raise a glass to Nick Anderson by joining the bar below.
