After a 2-1 victory over the Phillies today, the Braves are 2-6 in Spring Training. That would be bad, except a) Spring Training stats are meaningless, and b) read previous. The Braves’ victory came on a walkoff single by “Braeden Schlehuber” โ€”ย that would be a 25-year old catcher who hit below the Mendoza line in Double-A last year.

Please, by all means, watch and listen to the games. They are incredibly important, as the established players get ready for Opening Day and players on the bubble like Tommy La Stella fight to make a case for major league playing time. And they’ll be facing career minor leaguers with no stuff and established pitchers who are trying to remember how to find the plate with all their pitches. The stats don’t matter, as Mac used to say every year.

But thank God that baseball is back.
