I’m not ready to call any one game a “have to” win at this point. I will say that we desperately need to win the series and winning the first game would be nice. Given our streakiness and the Phillies streakiness, if we win our next 5 and the Phillies lose their next 5 (or vice versa), nothing would be even remotely decided.

ts not about just the players exchanged its about the payroll just as much. The return for Oswalt? Horrible until you learn that the Astros will save a net 15 million THIS YEAR with the trade.
That’s impossible. “The Astros sent $11 million to the Phillies as part of the deal, which covers all of the roughly $5 million he’s owed for the remainder of the season, plus more than a third of his 2011 salary plus option buyout. In other words, the Phillies will pay $10.5 million for a year and two-plus months of Oswalt, while the Astros will pay $11 million for him not to pitch for them. If that seems a bit odd, it is.”
The Braves are 0-15 in the past 9 bases loaded situations, the two runs produced came from walks.
5 double plays.
Ugh.
I’m now interested in Chone Figgins. I’ve seen both good and bad opinions on him. So, he has a huge contract and isn’t performing well this year?

That Bowman article actually clears up a great deal about what’s going on with Kawakami — and it’s hilarious. The team is basically holding his career hostage, telling him, “If you want to pitch at all, you better go to Gwinnett and rebuild your value, so we can get rid of you.”

I don’t get why the Braves are screwing Kawakami.
He hasn’t actually been that bad — I thought our FO was better than looking at simpleton stats like W/L record. He doesn’t seem to be a “chemistry” problem either. He’s fine as the long man out of the bullpen (if expensive), and his contract is market value if he’s a starter.
A team like the Cardinals could have definitely used him (and still could).
My guess is that the Braves won’t use him to avoid an injury that would negate a trade. Remember how they handled Saltalamacchia a few years ago before the deadline?
td
on August 2, 2010 at 3:27 pm
KK has had one outing in relief this year (I think) and looked horrible. I think the idea is to get him some work in AAA so he can provide some value before the end of the year. The bottom line is that Cox doesn’t trust him as a reliever and probably won’t unless he comes in 2 or 3 times in the next few weeks when we’re getting blown out and pitches well or he goes back to the minors. IMO 1 bad relief outing is not enough to throw up the white flag, but I can understand the frustration.
‘The immediate impact on the Astros payroll is that it will be $12 million lighter in 2011 and that 2012 will not see the obligation to buyout Oswalt’s option for $2 million.’
There is a lot to read in that post but its instructive on the pressures a GM has when a trade of a star player is made.
I still don’t get why we’re not using him in relief.
Marc Schneider
on August 2, 2010 at 3:37 pm
Agree with the sentiments on KK. He deserves better than he’s getting. If it wasn’t for money, he should be in the rotation before Lowe. IIRC, he beat Roy Halladay last season and pitched very well against a number of top pitchers. That’s more than you can say about Derek “But he knows how to win except when he doesn’t” Lowe.
csg
on August 2, 2010 at 3:38 pm
td – his outing was awful because he hadnt pitched in two weeks. There have been plenty of chances for the braves to use KK. They are screwing themselves by sticking him in the pen and not using him under any circumstances. Its in his contract that he cant be demoted, cant blame him for making them keep their end of the deal. I still think someone claims him off of waivers
csg
on August 2, 2010 at 3:40 pm
I also dont buy the Lowe is making too much money to be in the pen philosophy. I dont know who I would rather having pitching every 5th day, but $$ shouldnt be the factor. If Lowe is the 6th best pitcher (he probably is) he should be moved to the pen despite his contract
Nasa from france
on August 2, 2010 at 3:42 pm
Me neither. They kept on trotting Chavez out in the field day after day. They gave Poser and Jo-jo a million chances. Lowe’s still doing his usual 5ip/4er line every 5th day. Yup, I hope he tells them to stick it.
you guys remember dan johnson (played with the a’s and rays)? man, talk about a guy that was prematurely given up on. i dont get it. he showed above average on base skills and lots of pop. check out his minor league stats this year. he’s ripping shit up. did something happen to him that i’m unaware of? http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=johnso006dan

35- Keep in mind that his time in the AL showed consistently below-average production for a first baseman. Judging by the three years of experience, he was given up on once he earned the right to go to arbitration, in favor of new guys who hadn’t earned that right.
Johnny

@29 – Just what the guy said in his blog. I dunno. Bottom line. Oswalt painted Wade into a corner, Wade trades with the only team he has a chance to get any return out of and that Oswalt will approve.
Gist of the article is that decisions aren’t made in a vacuum. There are always underlying factors unknown to the public that drive teams to do what they do.
According to Gondee & DOB, there was a bloodletting in Gwinnett today: Willy Taveras released, Poser put on waivers and told he can either accept a AAA assignment or look for another employer.

Hopefully Diory will hit some singles this year if he plays any. I don’t want to call him Sub-Zero again.
@37, it’s his opinion, which is reasonably well laid out. A fair argument can be made against several of the speculative underlying premises – the idea that a player “has” to be traded, and QED, leverage is lost under any circumstances is particularly arguable.
Johnny
on August 2, 2010 at 5:57 pm
@37 Won’t disagree with you. You can disagree with anything the guy has to say and make a good argument of it. However, I found his opinion to be open minded and more expansive than the usual the ‘Astros got hosed’ stuff written everywhere else.
My original point was lost by my bad memory. I thought that I had read one blogger say that the Astros saved money this year with the deal. Since I couldn’t find the article I stand corrected.
My original point is that there are always factors beyond public knowledge that control a GM’s actions. Payroll, contract status, and scouting reports to name a few. Its never as simple as fans think it is.

50 — Why are you blaming Wren? There are not a lot of choices. Diory and Hicks are the only other infielders on the 40 man. Can’t expect to add much from a Triple A middle infielder.
Chipper had some good hacks there. His ground ball wasn’t weak, just right at the corner.
I don’t get the KK situation either. Moving him to the pen was good, but there have been plenty of opportunities where it would have been ok to pitch him. I’d have rather seen him out there any time instead of Chavez.
Anyway, that’s why you always break runners second and third on a groundball — someone will be out. If it’s you, it’s still first and third, which isn’t bad. If it’s not, you score a run.
Do my eyes deceive me, or did we get a two-out hit with runners in scoring position? On the other hand, Ankiel is new here and hasn’t learned to fit in.
I like making fun of Francoeur as much as anyone — well, more than anyone, it’s a lifestyle — but if true, this is another data point in my “the Braves don’t get mental health” hypothesis.

If that seems a bit odd, it is.”
http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/the-roy-oswalt-trade-houstons-perspective/
@7, KK should tell them to stick it. He’s perfectly capable of pitching at this level, and is far better than some of the guys who have pitched ahead of him. What is he going to get out of AAA?
why would KK accept a minor league assignment? the Braves guaranteed that wouldnt happen to him, its in writing on his contract. KK has better numbers as a brave than Lowe does and makes 1/2 as much.
That Bowman article actually clears up a great deal about what’s going on with Kawakami — and it’s hilarious. The team is basically holding his career hostage, telling him, “If you want to pitch at all, you better go to Gwinnett and rebuild your value, so we can get rid of you.”
@11
“The Braves are 0-15 in the past 9 bases loaded situations, the two runs produced came from walks.
5 double plays.”
Ugh indeed. Someone said it earlier, and I agree: It really is pretty amazing that they are in first place.
Pretty shitty what they’re doing with KK, imo.
Lowe is making too much money to go to the pen. I know that is stupid, but that is why KK is there and not Lowe. Plus, Bobby loves him.
you gotta think that if we put him on waivers, someone will at least be interested.
KK has had one outing in relief this year (I think) and looked horrible. I think the idea is to get him some work in AAA so he can provide some value before the end of the year. The bottom line is that Cox doesn’t trust him as a reliever and probably won’t unless he comes in 2 or 3 times in the next few weeks when we’re getting blown out and pitches well or he goes back to the minors. IMO 1 bad relief outing is not enough to throw up the white flag, but I can understand the frustration.
I recant. The Astros don’t save 15 this year.
http://www.crawfishboxes.com/2010/7/30/1595396/what-does-the-roy-oswalt-trade
‘The immediate impact on the Astros payroll is that it will be $12 million lighter in 2011 and that 2012 will not see the obligation to buyout Oswalt’s option for $2 million.’
There is a lot to read in that post but its instructive on the pressures a GM has when a trade of a star player is made.
DOB reveals O’Flaherty’s Disease and it is… mono!
I still don’t get why we’re not using him in relief.
Agree with the sentiments on KK. He deserves better than he’s getting. If it wasn’t for money, he should be in the rotation before Lowe. IIRC, he beat Roy Halladay last season and pitched very well against a number of top pitchers. That’s more than you can say about Derek “But he knows how to win except when he doesn’t” Lowe.
td – his outing was awful because he hadnt pitched in two weeks. There have been plenty of chances for the braves to use KK. They are screwing themselves by sticking him in the pen and not using him under any circumstances. Its in his contract that he cant be demoted, cant blame him for making them keep their end of the deal. I still think someone claims him off of waivers
I also dont buy the Lowe is making too much money to be in the pen philosophy. I dont know who I would rather having pitching every 5th day, but $$ shouldnt be the factor. If Lowe is the 6th best pitcher (he probably is) he should be moved to the pen despite his contract
Me neither. They kept on trotting Chavez out in the field day after day. They gave Poser and Jo-jo a million chances. Lowe’s still doing his usual 5ip/4er line every 5th day. Yup, I hope he tells them to stick it.
DOB also tweets that the Braves are giving The Pinky a couple more days before they decide whether to put its owner on the DL.
@21, the phrase “$12 million lighter in 2011” is still some fuzzy math – they are prepaying 6M of Oswalts salary for 2011 this year to the Phillies.
Heard Frank Wren on WFAN today. He said Prado will be out of the lineup 7-10 days. DL TBD.
If Prado is “Pinky” who on the Braves is the Brain now that Maddux is a Cub.
via dob, prado to the dl. please bring up matt young! i bet it’s brandon hicks, who doesnt help at all. maybe it’ll be freddie.
I’m guessing Diory.
Yep, DOB says it’s Diory.
@33
youre probably right.
you guys remember dan johnson (played with the a’s and rays)? man, talk about a guy that was prematurely given up on. i dont get it. he showed above average on base skills and lots of pop. check out his minor league stats this year. he’s ripping shit up. did something happen to him that i’m unaware of?
http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=johnso006dan
35- Keep in mind that his time in the AL showed consistently below-average production for a first baseman. Judging by the three years of experience, he was given up on once he earned the right to go to arbitration, in favor of new guys who hadn’t earned that right.
Diory makes Glaus right now look like Babe Ruth.
Who is Poser?
Chris Resop (“Poser” spelled backwards).
@37, it’s his opinion, which is reasonably well laid out. A fair argument can be made against several of the speculative underlying premises – the idea that a player “has” to be traded, and QED, leverage is lost under any circumstances is particularly arguable.
Re: Kawakami
I think this is a situation similar to the Escobar one: I think Bobby just doesn’t like him and so the front office bends over and takes it from Granddaddy Cox.
Diory in, Prado out. That’s a bit of a downgrade. At least our #1 pinch runner role is well defined again. Looks like all the team hit records are safe for another year.
Let’s go Braves!!!
Going to start the treadmill after the 5 th inning, it seems to be more effective later in the game.
#45 – Dang Coach.
Don’t know whats up with Kenshin. Looks from the outside that the Braves are trying to screw him. That they are doing that character killing thing with Peanut is a bad sign. It may be as simple as Medlen, 450k, KK millions (I don’t recall his contract amounts).
#45 – It’s hard to say but the team is getting into a habit of treating players (good or bad) in ways not consistent with their on the field contribution. It’s a pretty bad habit.
Diory frickin Hernandez. Great move, Wren…
Have strikeouts “been coming quite often” for Tim Hudson?
Chip again? Really? Did Peachtree TV go under or something? Other than that Fox game, we have had a lot of Chip lately.
Pagan still owns us.
50 — Why are you blaming Wren? There are not a lot of choices. Diory and Hicks are the only other infielders on the 40 man. Can’t expect to add much from a Triple A middle infielder.
Guess the Mets gameplan is to run on Ross/Hudson tonight.
Nothing crazy here Tim, Skippy is up next.
One of the great things about Heyward batting second: In a game that promises to be a pitchers duel, Bobby doesn’t bunt after the leadoff guy gets on.
There’s nothing wrong with ESPN’s baseball coverage that two lightning bolts couldn’t cure- one each directed at ARoid and Chip Caray.
Not sure pitch count matters tonight. It’s so damned hot that the pitchers will be worn out after 2 hours no matter what.
I joketweeted that Chipper should bunt here, but actually, I’m not sure that’s a bad idea.
Only the Mets’ defensive incompetence saved us there.
Yeah, he should have bunted.
There you go, Matty!
Matty D!
Lefty Masher!
And the Mets are treating the baseball like it’s Kryptonite.
you can call me mrs. diaz. i wouldnt mind.
Henry Blanco???
Thanks Chipper!
Somebody bring Chipper his walker. It’s a long way back to the dugout.
Someone was going to be out either way, still got a guy at 3rd. Now would be a good time for Glaus to wake up again.
Man, what was Chipper thinking?
chipper with bad baserunning? what is this world coming to?
Chip thinks that Glaus’ problems are mental, not that his legs are held together by chewing gum and baling twine.
Met announcers think Diaz forced him off the bag.
Anyway, that’s why you always break runners second and third on a groundball — someone will be out. If it’s you, it’s still first and third, which isn’t bad. If it’s not, you score a run.
fauxfrankwren:
“I’m going to try and get Hinske to come out and cover Chipper with a James Brown robe after each of his outs.”
i hope ankiel is part native american and that’s not from the tanning bed.
New Guy!
Ricky!
Ankiel!!!
Ankiel!
Ankiel Fever!
atta boy, newbie!
Ricky!
Well, just endear yourself to us, Rick. Nice.
Do my eyes deceive me, or did we get a two-out hit with runners in scoring position? On the other hand, Ankiel is new here and hasn’t learned to fit in.
Way better than Melky.
What do you think McCann and Lowe are talking about? My guess: “No, I don’t think you could have made it as an outfielder.”
that was melkeylichous
Well, 3 runs for us & 30 pitches for Johan. Gotta like that.
FWIW, last 2 first innings for Santana—9 runs.
Melky sucks.
Awwwww Jeffy.
Why would he want to be in Atlanta Chip? He sucked there and we all hate him.
awww, he’s so cute….and he sucks.
@89
“No dude, my hair is already blonde. Highlights won’t work for me”.
Dammit, Tim, you have to hold on to that ball.
Auditioning for the Mets, Tim?
Glaus can’t really bend.
Bear down, Timmy. Johan can hit a little bit.
Mets radio announcer Howie Rose was discussing a Newark Star-Ledger story where Francoeur seemed to admit that he has “anxiety issues.”
http://tinyurl.com/2aujva4
He also has “ability issues.”
(That’s probably a low blow, but he’s earned it.)
And “intelligence issues.” I dare you to disagree.
Hudson, now, might have made it as an outfielder.
I sure hope the becomes “one of those Turner Field games.” I know that’s what Mets fans are thinking.
“I get so anxious,” Francoeur said. “I don’t know. Part of me thinks I need to go on medicine. I do.”
Medicine? I don’t think they make medicine for Jeffy’s problems. Steroids maybe…
I like making fun of Francoeur as much as anyone — well, more than anyone, it’s a lifestyle — but if true, this is another data point in my “the Braves don’t get mental health” hypothesis.
heyward’s been rolling over lots of balls.
I’m not sure there’s much to get. He sucks after spending his whole life being the best among his peers. He doesn’t know how to handle it. There may not be anything anyone can do about that, he has to figure it out just like the rest of humanity. Guys who figure it out find some degree of success, others wash out.
That was no more a strike than it was a Butterball turkey.
If Chipper were Marley, we’d be getting to the part of the movie where Owen Wilson realizes that he’s going to have to put him down.
I am not going to attempt to answer the trivia question due to the flagrant grammatical error.
I swear anytime the question is about pitching Chip always says ‘The first name that pops into my mind is Roy Halladay’.
Robert @ 110, that was… That was a heck of a line, that was.
I missed the question. How did it read? Sounds funny.
Nah, they just used “is” instead of “are” for a plural answer.
Theory: The Braves are burying Kawakami because they intend to hire Ozzie Guillen to manage next season.
The two active pitchers between Santana (1st) and Hudson (4th) in ERA. Obviously the first name that pops into my mind is Roy Halladay.
Diaz with the hustle.
Why does Santana give Diaz anything to hit?
116 — Let’s hope not…and we think Bobby bunts a lot.
Is there a certain innings limit? I would say Lincecum but I doubt hes had enough innings.
God, you suck New Guy. And you suck too Joe for defending every crappy thing he does.
dear chip,
“chaseing” is not a part of baseball.
thank you
EDIT: unless there is run-down play
Poser waivers.
Glausbeast!
I use to like Ozzie Guillen, now I wish he would go back to Venezuela or just shut the “F” up. By the way, horrible at-bat by Yunel’s replacement.
The ESPN bottom line just said that Prado was DLed.
Glaus on base in both trips so far tonight. We need him to wake up.
126 – Obviously YMMV, but I like Ozzie. I wish he would take over here next season (certainly over Fredi), I like the way he runs a pitching staff. Always gets a lot out of his rotation and seems to always build a strong pen.
Granted, his antics in the press are probably a lot more entertaining when he is somebody else’s manager.
Trvia Answer: Oswalt and Halladay. The new teammates.
Why does this team hate leadoff doubles?
Guillen is an American citizen.
Keep the xenophobia to yourself, Tony.
Ozzie doesn’t bother me & I’ll always have a soft spot for him because of that big hit he got in the ’99 NLCS off Armando Benitez.
Chip doesn’t understand why Francoeur sucks.
He doesn’t have talent Chip. He’s just a big dumb guy who looks good in the uniform.
Chip talking of Francoeur and “the talent he obviously has.” Obvious? Really? It’s not obvious to me.
Awwww.
@128 I mean I like the way Ozzie manages, I just wish he would quit trying to be the Al Sharpton for Latinos. Boy Frenchy just missed it…….lol. Huddy leaving pitches up.
Bless his heart.
Hudson is allowing too many flyballs tonight and is walking a bit of a tightrope.
At least Santana has been worse.
Do you think that when Francoeur comes up to bat, pitchers over think their pitches? Like Hudson would think, “I’ve never tried to throw a knuckleball or an eephus. It might be a good time to try either in a game situation.”
Umpire is calling the outside batter’s box for both teams.
@121 I’m thinking there’s an arbitrary 1500 IP limit, because otherwise Jake Peavy would be slightly above Hudson with a little over 1400 innings
Ugh…..sinker is not sinking
Peavy may not count as active anymore.
Chip likes the word “apropo” almost as much as the word “fisted.”
144 — Either that or whoever did the trivia question messed up more than the grammar.
Say what you will about Yunel, but Reyes just set the major league record for most lackadaisical throw. He wasn’t even looking.
The Braves are giving Hibernation Mode a workout. Third game in a row they’ve gotten a small early lead and then shut it down.
So… if your last name was ‘Venis’, wouldn’t you do things like, you know, not wearing shirts with your last name printed on the back at nationally televised events? Just to help yourself out.
I hate Ron Darling. All he does is talk shit and talk about himself.
Man, I know Chip is brutal, but I’d almost rather listen to him than these idiots on espn
Glaus, still, can’t really bend.
Good thinking, guys. Let’s just get one over to Beltran.
Radio guys said Hudson is 105 – 2 when given a 3 run lead.
Glaus looks more like 43 than 33 right now.
Maybe I should start now…
Run, Bethany!
This is a really slow game. It’s only the top of the fifth and we’re closing in on two hours. And hot as it is, that has to take a toll, not just on the pitchers.
AJ Burnett is Derrick Lowe for the Yankees…..just give us 6 Huddy.
Id walk Davis.
But Glaus is supposed to play third next year!
Prediction: Farnsworth will make his debut tonight.
Wow….what a stupid fan. A welcome home Frenchy sign? Good grief…..
Awwww. That’s their Jeffy!
Good ol’ Failcoeur.
Awww. how cute
he’s ADORABLE!
“Hit high and deep to second base…”
For those of you who have soured on Wren, remember he planted Jeffy on the Mets.
Will steroid boy pls hit this meaningless 600th HR?
Go sit down New Guy.
Second guessers, Huddy OK to pitch the 6th?
Bottom of the order, he should be fine.
You know, there is just something more refreshing about the Braves playing without Melky or McLouth in centerfield (whether they win or lose). Let’s hope for a win!
It’s almost as good as watching the Braves on tv with no Chip.
So, does Philo K. Farnsworth pitch the seventh, or the eighth, or not at all?
Good call, Robert. Though he looked pretty done against Castillo.
The 8th.
Looks like that’s it for Timmy.
I’ve got it 7th-Venters, 8th-Farns, 9th-Wagner. They’ll use Venters next inning to turn all those switch hitters around to slow them down a little.
You know, Angel Pagan would look mighty good in a Braves uni about now.
Always liked him!
Diory sighting!
Ron Darling is like an egotistical Chip Caray who thinks he knows everything about baseball.
You know, Bobby doesn’t really ever have to extend the starter beyond the 6th anymore if the guy doesn’t have electric stuff on any given night with this bullpen.
Diory’s game day photo looks like Todd Bridges at age 12.
Maybe Cox will do some mix and matching…..I don’t like Farnsworth against Reyes, Beltran or Davis. Diory swinging on 3 and 1?
In that case, he’s about three years from holding up a liquor store.
Ah Diory, you are just as I remember you.
Three leadoff doubles… three times still at second two outs later.
This picture of the Farnz is incredible.
Diory? Really, Bobby?
I would have used Conrad, probably. The other options were lefties and Melky.
190 — lol
184,
He didn’t have to do it before. He just did it, and it probably cost us several games. If acquiring the Farnz gives Bobby enough confidence in the bullpen to quit running his gassed starter out there against the middle of the order for the fourth time, it was worth it.
Over/under for hits by Frenchy for the series is 1.5. Who’s taking over?
Conrad really can’t hit righthanded right now. McCann wouldn’t be used, and is a lefty anyway. Hinske really can’t hit lefties. That leaves Melky and Diory. Pick your poison. Bobby went with the strychnine.
194 — Oh, I agree. He probably was trying (to an extent) to keep from running our 4 reliable arms into the ground and using Chavez.
That 1-0 pitch was a beautiful thing
Julio Teheran has a no hitter going through 5 in his second start at AA. Struck out 7, walked 2, had one reach on an infield error. Thrown 77 pitches, 51 strikes. Just struck out the side in the fifth.
Venters is awesome.
Pls rest Venters for the stretch run, Cox…..he’s too important to wear out.
Ten straight 95+ sinkers and then a nasty slider. Venters is filthy.
Sounds like there was a collision in the Indians game tonight that you don’t want to see on Baseball Tonight.
ZOMBIE!!
BRAINS!!!!
BRAINS!
BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAINS!
Zombie!
CHIPPA!
Laaaarrrrryyyyy
Just when I think he needs to go and I won’t miss him he does that!
And Mac, you don’t want to see the collision. Definitely cringeworthy.
I see it was a home plate collision a la Caminiti/Olson, not an outfield collision a la Beltran/Cameron.
Agony reminds me of Frenchy…….yet he is batting in the 5 hole tonite.
The magical treadmill supports our reanimated corpses.
Good news, everyone! Farnsworth isn’t pitching!
@213 Is it on MLB.com yet? Link?
Hudson has a lot of mental toughness. He almost always is a stopper to losing streaks. I’ll forgive him for hitting me in the back in All-Stars.
Chipper Jones is Mister Met
217 — I dunno, I just saw it on my Gametracker ticker that the Indians catcher had to leave the game.
I looked around for it on MLB.com and didn’t find it. Thanks
That Indians catcher is Carlos Santana. That sucks for a young rookie who just called up and was proving the hype was legit.
Yahoo fantasy sports says he suffered a severe leg injury and was carried off the field with his leg in an air cast
Chip had a mini-orgasm on that Francoeur single.
They just pulled Teheran cuz of pitch count. He made it 5 and 2/3 innings total. No hits allowed. 7 strikeouts, 3 walks. 95 pitches, 60 strikes. He also got his first career hit. Not bad for a second start in AA by a 19 year old.
I think I’m gonna catch his next start this weekend here in Birmingham.
Chip has a mini-orgasm every time the batter makes contact. It’s really impressive, if you think about it.
That’ll be Saturday? Maybe I could make it to Birmingham for that. I’ll see.
Saturday is my guess at this point. Looking forward to it. Depending on how bored I get, I might try to check out Delgado as well.
Chip: “They’re using their lefties now because they know Wagner’s waiting in the 9th”
Really, Chip? You don’t think it’s because Saito is right-handed?
Shoooooooooooooooooo!
Chip and Joe really bringing the dumb tonight.
They’re called Oeurgasms.
Hey, they bring the dumb every night. They’re the Lou Gehrigs of dumb. Chip is the Dumb Horse.
That was a little unsettling. Sure, the Braves are winning. But Franceour got a hit. With a bat. Just odd.
224,
I might try to make it as well, depending on what SABR-40 things are going on that day.
Saw him make his low-A debut last year and once more in Rome this year, but I’d love to see him again.
ankiel’s approach at the plate is very reminiscent of kelly johnson.
About Venters. that’s why I was praying he’d get suspended. For the rest.
So that’s, what, 13 Ks out of 23 outs? Pretty impressive Braves.
Chip and Joe > Rathburn and Torbore
Well, yes, but that’s hardly praise. Actually, I thought Joe was slightly better with Rathbun than he is with Chip, though both play(ed) into his tendencies too much. Really, the person who controlled Joe the best was Pete.
@237
Well it wasn’t like Ground Ball McGee started for the Mets.
Well Mac, I mean Pete was the man
pretty amazing we are winning this game actually. Some very good pitching by the boys tonight
Melkey and Frenchy gets a hit in the same game? I suppose it’s too dark outside to see the pigs flying, but I have to assume they are.
No way Smitty. At this point, I’d prefer Paciorek.
I liked Joe and Boog
I actually liked the Paciorek hire at the time, but then he was replacing Al 715.
The collision was horrific. That kid is hurt bad.
Did you just see it on Baseball Tonight? Am I too late?
Has the game been on ESPN all night or did they just swich to it?
Mike Hesseman?
How is he not with the Royals?
HESSMANIA!
Yeah, sometimes they switch to it in between A-Rod at-bats.
Yeah, Joe it’s a f’ing miracle New Guy handled that pop up.
Great slider. Beating the Mets is always the sweetest.
Dear GOD. Jerome Jurenovich just said “Rick Antiel” before starting his interview with Rick Ankiel.
what collision?
Recapped.
