I want to throw things. Spotted a 3-1 lead, Mike Hampton promptly let it go to 3-2, then utterly collapsed in the fourth inning. Then Jim Brower came in to put the game away. It was 9-2 by the time Brower was gone.
But the Braves came back! It was 9-6 after six, then 9-7 after seven. They even had the tying run on base with two out, but for once Francoeur didn’t have the magic. Still, they had made it a ballgame, and at least could force the Padres to use Hoffman to close it and work the bullpen.
Ah, but then came Kolb. Once again, he let the first two reach. Then he got a groundball, one out. But then he allowed a homer to make it 12-7 and essentially end the ballgame. I hate Dan Kolb. I also hate Jim Brower, and he’s cheap; can we release him now? Braves pitchers allowed an unbelievable twenty hits to a Padres team coming off consecutive shutouts at the hands of the Marlins.
Sosa pitched well, bailing out Brower in the fifth. Reitsma recorded two strikeouts in a 1-2-3 ninth, now that it doesn’t matter… The French Connection (LaRoche and Francoeur) had four and three hits respectively and each scored two runs.
Luckily, the Phillies and Natspos lost. But look, there are the Marlins, now they’re only 4 1/2 back! This homestand is rapidly turning into a major flop. Against a division where all teams are below .500, the Braves are .500 on the homestand… Fox day game tomorrow, Ramirez returns to the rotation against Pedro Astacio. Over/Under, combined runs: 16 1/2. Over/Under, combined home runs: 5 1/2.
I said it once, and I will say it again. My suggestions:
– DL Brower and Kolb for the reason for inability to pitch;
– Call up McBride and Devine;
– start Julio every game; and
– LaRoche is a good pitch-hitter off the bench.
Kolb has regressed, cut him lose.
LaRoche had 4 hits
I’m not too concerned about these games. We’re hitting well, the only reason we are losing is we’re throwing starters who just came off the DL. They’ll come around.
I missed the last one because I was throwing things. I fixed it.
One thing I forgot, Franceour seems to be working deeper counts.
I’m not sure you can say Sosa bailed Brower out. I think it’s more accurate to say Andruw bailed Brower out.
Jeff had some of the best at-bats of his big-league career last night. I thought he looked like a different player…in a good way, which is kind of scary.
The losses one this homestand are critically bad and particularly glaring.
Mac is right. The Dodgers are Padres are inferior teams…we should be 5-1 at worst this week; not already 1-3 and in danger of being below .500 for the week. It’s completely delporable.
I agree. Buh bye, Kolbb and Brower already. We are closing in on September and AT WHAT POINT DOES BRAVES MANAGEMENT HAVE THE FUCKING BALLSACK TO DUMP KOLB’S FAT, UGLY ASS ALREADY?
That said, I am tired of “just came off the DL excuse.” If you are not ready to go out there and pitch like a Mike Hampton should, then sit your stumpy little goatee’d ass on the DL until you are ready you ugly, little fuckface troll.
Yeah, I am on 2 hours of sleep and I am in an angry ranting, horrific mood after losing 3 of 4 to the hapless NL West at home this week. It’s just inexcusable on every level. No excuses…Braves fans who come on here and make excuses, find on another site. I am sick of it and every Braves fan should be as angry and livid and sick of this shit that Cox and JS are putting out there, every fucking night, from the god awful shit-ass wretched pen.
Isn’t there a “no excessive cussing” policy on here or something? I wanna say I remember people getting banned for that. I think I can figure out that Alex R. doesn’t like our bullpen without the “f” word every six or so words.
And honestly, the attacks on Hampton’s appearance is pretty weak, man. This guy makes more money in a year than you do in a lifetime, and according to you, he doesn’t even have to do his job. I’d feel pretty sad if I was making fun of someone in that situation.
I’m getting this feeling that Alex doesn’t like the pitching much. Just subtleties here and there, you know, that might lead to that implication 😉
All kidding aside, that was a little excessive. Actually, REALLY excessive.
