ESPN.com – MLB – Recap

Well, if Wright isn’t hurt, the second game worked out okay. The Braves were outhit 11-7, but (a) they didn’t walk anyone, while drawing four to equal the baserunners, (b) they got two solo homers (LaRoche and Giles) in the fifth, and (c) they bunched their hits, getting three, with two walks, to score three runs to win the game in the sixth.

With Wright hurt, the Braves used six pitchers. Travis Smith allowed, yes, a homer, but a solo shot in the fourth. Colon blew a one-run lead in the sixth but vultured a win out of it. Cruz loaded the bases on singles with nobody out in the seventh, but got a strikeout and popup, then Reitsma finished the inning to get out unscathed. Reitsma in turn allowed two hits in the next inning but got out of that, and Smoltz closed it, allowing one hit.

The Dodgers are losing, very early. If they did lose, the Braves would be in very good shape — 2 1/2 up with four games to play, five for the Dodgers, and holding an edge in the season series. Sportssouth game tomorrow.
