Wasn’t able to watch or follow much of this. Got a hurricane coming, though it’s largely missing our area, and we’re in great shape. I just want to turn the page on the Journal.
Kyle Muller did what he needed to do pitching into the 5th. A rested bullpen pitched 4 1/3 shutout innings with Collin McHugh, AJ Minter, Jesse Chavez, and Tyler Matzek taking the load.
Ronald Acuna Jr. seems to be a little “backâ€, launching two home runs. Orlando Arcia continues to like hitting at Nationals Park, hitting another homer. The lineup as a whole put up 10 hits. I’m glad we’re taking care of business right now.
Not sure what the teams will do because of the hurricane, but the most logical thing I’ve heard is playing a game on Thursday and a doubleheader on Friday.

I have tickets for Saturday, the worst day by forecast all weekend. A Sunday doubleheader seems more logical than Friday to me since we already play Sunday night on ESPN. I am traveling to Atlanta tomorrow night to be safe.

An outfield of Malloy, Harris and Acuna could be epic.
I’m always worried that we’ll end up like Houston or LA or any other team that hasn’t been able to fully turn their run into a dynasty because of aging veterans and not being able to keep the pipeline going. But if Malloy also somehow turns into an above average player, then my jaw will drop. I mean, this core: Malloy, Harris, Acuna, Riley, Dansby, Ozzie, Grissom, Olson, Contreras. How can one farm produce all of that (plus Olson through prospect trades)? Insane. And it’s more of the same on the pitching side.
Man, really feel for SW FL right now. All of the hype was for this thing to go to Tampa Bay. And then it ends up hitting SW FL sort of at the last moment. When the early models had it going to Tampa Bay, I immediately thought that meant it WASN’T going to Tampa Bay. I don’t want to spike the ball just yet, but I don’t even think we’ll lose power. 🤞
Rob, that’s an insanely strong home grown core. And both Arcia and TDA are signed for next year with a team option for ’24. We won’t mention Ozuna. All the team needs is another role player or two and we have a deep and talented roster for the next couple of years at least.

And the team is printing money, they’re building onto the Battery, and this will only get better and better. Might be a good time for Liberty to sell the team.

Looking at the forecast, I agree that the most likely result is that they get the Friday game in and play a day-night doubleheader on Sunday, but a small change in the trajectory could mess the league up big time.

Actually, at this point, I’m glad everything happened exactly the way it did. I can’t complain about our results & it definitely seems like we’ll be in good shape for awhile.
Bought a cheap ticket for tonight’s Marlins/Mets game… call it a sociological endeavor.
John Tumpane was the balk-happy umpire in last night’s Mets-Marlins game. I don’t recognize the name (which doesn’t mean much, as I don’t know as many umpires as I used to). Wonder if he’s ever umpired a game in which Kenley Jansen has pitched.
I can’t understand why, with both teams off, MLB doesn’t move a game to Thursday. I am 150 miles south of Truist and we are getting 10 mph steady winds out of the east, now, with some gusting. I am 99% they can get one in on Thursday, but have doubts on Friday and Saturday (exact speed and direction of storm, pending). I am sure they have some version of Prescription Athletic Turf on the field, so if it stops raining by 10 a.m. on Sunday, they can easily play Sunday afternoon. FYI, headed well east of me. We may see 3 to 5 inches of rain and 35 to 40 mph winds and maybe a few higher gusts. Compared to Michael, that is play time.
On the other hand about the storm, despite 40 computer models averaged out saying where the path is, I think it will continue to go more east (right) than the projection. The weather in South Georgia is too cold and too dry. That big high pressure is going to push that thing farther east. But even if my home spun meteorology turns out accurate, MLB should still step in and fix this thing.
What Cliff says about playing the first game on Thursday makes sense. But has that (making up in advance a game that you expect to be rained out) ever happened before?
I have tickets to the Friday and Saturday games. If they move Friday’s game to Thursday, I may be able to make it, but it will be very difficult. So I have a selfish reason for hoping they don’t do that. In any event, the chance of rain Friday night in Atlanta is now down to 30 percent; it was more like 70 percent as of yesterday. So I’m pretty optimistic that they will get Friday’s game in. Cliff’s amateur forecast rings true to me. The dry high pressure we currently have in middle Georgia may push this even further east. (I’m between Cliff and Truist, about 60 miles closer to the park.) But you should take my forecast with an appropriate amount of salt.

It doesn’t seem like they’re gonna be pushing games up. Given the not-particularly-bad forecast, I think they’re just gonna roll with it. If they need to play a split doubleheader on either Saturday or Sunday, they will.
Mets-based Twitter and media is going nuts currently about the lack of a plan to move the series or push up games or change something just so that the Braves could say they did. Ignore it. They have no idea that the main part of the storm is going to miss Atlanta pretty significantly by the current forecast. They’re just talking out of their asses.

Rosario must have seen either yesterday’s thread or the FanGraphs article about how the Braves are going to set a record for fewest bunts in a full season. FanGraphs looked at each of the four previous ones and found that only one had worked out, and on that one Harris bunted for a hit but was thrown out when he tried to go to second on an overthrow.
Exciting baseball at the end of September. Only thing better than this is October baseball.

@25/26 – I wouldn’t bet on that. If we clinch the division, or the Mets clinch before the last game, I can think of no better pitcher to start after that. He will probably pitch a no-hitter.
If Game 162 has zero stakes I suspect it will be Soroka + bullpen.

So I live in Riverview, just southeast of Tampa, and decided to take advantage of my in-laws empty condo in Naples so that I could keep power during the storm. Got here just as the forecast shifted. No flooding or danger to the family, but also no power and a tricky drive back to the Tampa area awaiting me. That’ll be the last time I plan based off of hurricane forecast models.
Tie game, but I wish Olson would have put together a better at-bat there. Immediately after their reliever walked a man to put two men on, Olson strode to the plate and swung at two straight curveballs to go down 0-2. That just doesn’t sound like a good approach to me.
I would much rather see Jansen this inning than next inning with the ghost runner. Let’s hope he can shut them down.

So if we beat the Mets 2 out of 3 we will be tied again. If this happens, the Mets will still have a 10 to 8 advantage against us. If we both win 2 of 3 in our last series and end up tied, the Mets win the division.
Bottom line: Three of the next starting six pitchers on the docket against the Braves are Scherzer, deGrom and Alcantara.
The Braves will be in a wild-card series.
At least you can’t really pin this one on Odorizzi.
The rain forecast in ATL metro area has further decreased since yesterday. The storm is tracking a bit further eastward and forecasted to move faster up through SC than originally thought.
