Teheran wasn’t stellar, but he gave up three solo shots. He’s a flyball pitcher and he will give up homers, so solo is what you’d want. (The Braves signed him when he was the equivalent of a high school freshman, and his favorite player was Curt Schilling. Between his tremendous K/BB ratio and his penchant for the longball, the comparison isn’t outrageous.)
But these Braves couldn’t hit a battleship if you showed them your side of the board right now, so Teheran took the loss.
Greg Walker delenda est.
Amen.
I’m late to the party on the Johnson extension. Don’t think I like it. The price actually seems fine, if not favorable, but I don’t really like the length. I would’ve liked to see them go year-to-year. I guess it’s good insurance because they have nobody in the system who could step in to play 3rd.
I’m late to the party on the Johnson extension.
Don’t worry, with Wood pitching today, you’re likely to get a rise out of it.
/blazon
Imma say if we continue scoring less than 1 run a game, we will not win.
I guess it’s going to be one of those days.
I’m fine with the length and price. It’s a tough position to fill and I don’t recall any internal options.
Watching Fernandez right now pitching against the Dodgers. This is insane. Have to say, it’s fun watching him (when he’s not playing the Braves).
Catcher’s interference again. Huh.
Offense continues to sparkle.
Chris Johnson is not a great defender.
Or hitter, but he’s doing well at the bank.
Gah, 57 pitches and 1 out in the 3rd. Going to be a long day
I would like to see them avoid a winless week, but since the Giants have scored 1 already it looks fairly certain an 0-6 week is in store
Wood’s not having it easy, but a few runs (giggle) might help.
I really dislike Pagan.
Just a fly ball Jason
A run, a run, a run!!!
One run does not a victory make, but I will gladly take it.
Maybe we just need to bunt more.
I’ve heard this song before.
Of course.
Our pitchers hate tie games.
I swear every time we have tied the game over the losing streak the staff has found it necessary to cough it up within the next 2 hitters in the following inning. This is getting ridiculous
Well maybe the offense should try letting someone pitch with a lead.
It usually takes more than 3 to win. Unless you are playing against us.
Sort of an unpleasant surprise to wake up one day and realize you have the worst offense in the league. How did this happen?
That sure is some heart of the order… Completely lost at the plate right now
So tell me again how Regression helps the team?
Good escape, Alex.
So that was probably Wood’s last inning, right? Gonna see a lot of middle relief today.
@29 well, at least we have a lot of arms right now.
That’s a better swing than Dan Uggla’s had all year.
At least the 9 spot’s doing something today.
If Uggla or Pena had done their job we would be tied.
Whatever “clutch” is, this team ain’t.
Jason missed 2 92 mph fastballs in that AB. Garbage..
Hale, yes.
Hopeless.
Justin Upton is not my hero. Come on, Evan.
We aren’t real good right now.
Does everyone just go up there hacking?
Swinging at pitches that aren’t even close. Unreal
Can’t even tip your cap. To Bumgarner, maybe, but Ryan Vogelsong is trash. Tim Lincecum in his current, depowered form is trash. But this offense ain’t shit. Send all your broken pitchers to get right against them! Utterly pathetic.
Avilan better have his magic today.
Edit: nice 1 pitch DP
Finally, there’s 2013 Avilan.
Luis is back.
Merry Christmas.
Uggla has to take advantage of that right side hole. Stupid shift and they are holding the runner.
Let Pastor play.
So Uggla takes two fat ones and swings at one eye level?
The worst everyday player in Major League Baseball. Only Homer Simpson has that sort of job and paycheck security despite gross incompetence.
At this point, I think the Braves could be spotted a free runner at third base to start every inning throughout a whole game, and still lose 5-4.
On deck behind Pena: the worst bench player in MLB?
So do we think the Uggla DFA is on the way or will he continue to do “this” for the foreseeable future? At least The Rev or Pena can play some defense
@51
I’m not sure. I wonder if the FO thinks LaStella is the guy? I’ve heard his defense is terrible. He has shown very little pop.
Ballgame.
Good night.
52: I’ve heard his defense is bad, but not as bad as Dan’s. So I doubt that’s what’s keeping him down. At this point, I think it’s primarily reluctance to admit their Uggla mistake.
Something must be done to improve our offense if we hope to contend. I despair.
La Stella’s defense is ahead of Phil Gosselin, who has struggled in the field this year. Neither has hit for any power at Gwinnett. But both are north of .300 in average and above .350 in OBP. I would much rather see either of them than Uggla for even one more day. 478 games of declining plate numbers and shoddy defense is enough. At least the light bulb has clicked on for B.J. Upton; since his session with Chipper, he has been solid, and is not the problem, and seems to be studying his reports; when patience is called for, he’s displaying it. But Uggla must go. Now.
If these players don’t hit there’s not a plan B. What you see is what we’ll get, except for maybe a mid-season Uggla DFA.
Eleven runs in the past 69 innings. 1.43 runs per nine innings in that span. Forty percent of our games this year have produced one run or fewer. Fan-bloody-tastic.
Hey, at least the Cardinals are coming in town. This streak could continue for a while. This offense blows. Change it up, let Pastor play and move some folks around in the order.
Is the recap up yet?
Just have to copy and paste
@61
Yes (you have no idea how close I was to doing just that)
Recap up
