Yep Miranda, you are our new middle relief. You can know rest assured that no one currently in the Braves organization, has the talent to take your jobe away….
Not because of your bad pitching of course. Just that you need more than one middle reliver. You’ll do decently, but unfortunately every one else will light up the scoreboard like a slot machine.
Sleep well, I won’t. I live next to a railroad track that trains still use….

Ever since the new park was named the Turner Field, the Braves have been cursed. The stadium should have been named Aaron Park from the very beginning.

Sell the naming rights to the stadium and use the cash to buy a bullpen that can hold a lead!
I’m with KC. We’ve commercialized the stadium too much already, and the few million dollars per year we’d get from selling the stadium rights are likely to be wasted on buying somebody’s washed-up remains. The Braves should be playing at Hammering Hank Aaron Field on Ted Turner Drive.
Miranda, a little advice, if I may- you probably don’t look the part of one of our bullpen pitchers yet. Make sure to stuff a couple of pillows under your jersey to simulate the required fat.

And now the often-imitated, never-duplicated
1914 Update!
NY Giants 60-49 (–)
Boston Braves 60-50 (.5 GB)
St. Louis Cardinals 63-54 (1)
Chicago Cubs 60-54 (2.5)
Cincinnati Reds 52-60 (9.5)
Philadelphia Phillies 51-59 (9.5)
Brooklyn Robins 51-61 (10.5)
Pittsburgh Pirates 51-61 (10.5)
The good stuff isn’t always in the box score. After Cubs 1B Vic Saier homered for the game’s only run, 3B Heinie Zimmerman scored a disputed hit. An argument broke out during which, to quote the New York Times account of the game, “Heinie miscalculated the range and the blow landed on a tender part of [Braves 2B Johnny] Evers’ anatomy.” Rabbit Maranville punched out Zimmerman, and the benches cleared. Fun times.

Thanks for the video. I needed that!
Like I said a few weeks ago, the whole bullpen (except for Baez – who is really gone for the year and Wickman) should be waived.
They could only help us if another team actually signs them.
it’s somewhat ironic that the losing pitcher back in 1914 was called Tyler..

You know, I had never seen that footage. I was all of 4 years old when it happened, and, although I knew what happened, I had never gotten the chance to see the replays. That was really cool. Amazing to think Smoltz is the only player link we have from that team.
I remember that night, sitting in the living room with my grandparents and my mother…and everyone going crazy when Sid slid in safe.
Good times..

Mac, Thanks for the trip down memory lane. It was a nice feeling and I suspect that we spend more time looking back than we have in recent years.

I hate to say it, but I would like to see Pratt start tonight’s game. He has killed astacio in his career. Then we could use McCann on Sunday. I guess Bobby is going to play McCann sunday, but if he doesn’t I will be upset.
Seriously, I hate the MLB. TV package right now. It is so rediculous to black out all of the afternoon games to internet viewers on Saturdays.

early wake up, and nice weekend
I just realized Soriano hits 41HR but only 82RBISWhat does it mean? small in quantity compared to other stats. relatively too many solo shot ? check it out
I’m convinced he’s stupid. He’s made two really stupid plays in this game (the other making the third out at second in the first). He may need rudimentary baseball instruction. “This is a strike. This is a ball. This is a first baseman…”
My hope is that Gryboski puts on a couple of runners and then somebody else comes in and gives up his runs and then gets out of the inning, thusly giving Grybo a taste of his own medicine.
I’m already hoping that I get to do the Hardball Times 5 questions again next year, because I know what the first one will be: “What’s Jeff Francoeur’s Problem? Is He Just Stupid?”
Another thing seeing that video does is make me long for the days when Sean McDonough was the premier national baseball TV announcer. He is so much better than Joe Buck that it makes me want to cry. Hell, even Tim McCarver was actually listenable (if that’s a word) when doing games with McDonough. Ah…those were the days. Now McDonough is pretty much wasted in a second fiddle role on ESPN when he may very well be the best baseball, football and basketball announcer they have over there.

I watched this game in my UF dorm with the sound off and the Braves radio network blaring, so when Skip Carey screamed “Braves Win…Braves Win…” I heard it live, which is saying something, I think.
I was 16 the last time the Braves failed to make the World Series. That’s friggin cool…..
I watched the ’95 WS game the other day…. it was nice to see!
alright so… I’m now joining the pen?!?
2nd post!!!!!
Yep Miranda, you are our new middle relief. You can know rest assured that no one currently in the Braves organization, has the talent to take your jobe away….
No offense but….
WE ARE ALL GONNA DIE!!!!!

Ok..that brought tears..
Wow, look at that stadium.
Jeff Porter right in the thick of things…

There are Reds and Cards on my Fox, and I can’t get rid of them.
Two runners on. How did we go an entire game with just two baserunners against Astacio last week?

It’s official, Jeff Francouer is stupid.
I hate not being able to see this… it’s terrible….
we have a collision and I can’t see it!! ugh
It was nice collision. Our resident Free Safety Jeff Francouer went same foot same shoulder on Johnson.
NICK JOHNSON, YOU JUST GOT *JACKED UP* !!!!
I’m convinced he’s stupid. He’s made two really stupid plays in this game (the other making the third out at second in the first). He may need rudimentary baseball instruction. “This is a strike. This is a ball. This is a first baseman…”
It was on a pop-up (duh!) by Frenchy down the first base line, Johnson came charging in and Jeff leveled him.
Yea MACT, or maybe he is like Rick Vaughn, and he needs some glasses with a skull and bones on the bridge.
GRYBOSKI!!!!!!
We didn’t get KOLB so LETS GET GRYBOSKI!!!
GO ADAM!!!!
ADAM GOT A WALK!!!
Jeff wanted to get some football in really quick…
My hope is that Gryboski puts on a couple of runners and then somebody else comes in and gives up his runs and then gets out of the inning, thusly giving Grybo a taste of his own medicine.
I’m already hoping that I get to do the Hardball Times 5 questions again next year, because I know what the first one will be: “What’s Jeff Francoeur’s Problem? Is He Just Stupid?”
A wild pitch….Where have I seen that before?
other happier times:
Answer: YES, REALLY STUPID. WHAT DO EXPECT FROM A GUY WHO EATS BROKEN BAT CHIPS AND SNIFFS PINE TAR?
Smoltz being Smoltz. Another quality outing. He’s 39 and he’s posting a 3.50 ERA….
James, thanks for posting that, I do want it all or nothing at all
Left some comments for you Jay…
Good ol’ Robert Fick…
And Chipper moves into third place all-time for HRs by a switch hitter, pretty impressive indeed. Think Chipper can get to 500 HRs ??
Chipper with the two run HR off Grybo. Awesome.
I hope he can….HALL OF FAMER!!!!!
Poetic Justice..
I feel safe…uncle Smoltzy 🙂
